David McCullough, Author of #1 NYTimes Best Seller PRAISES Laura Bush!
CSPAN2 ^

McCullough is the author of the splendid biographies of Harry Truman, T.R. Roosevelt, and John Adams (his latest). He is giving a live lecture now, I'm sure it'll be replayed on CSPAN2 later. He began his remarks about how the National Book Festival is a wonderful event, and that we've never had a First Lady who was a librarian before, and that our CURRENT First Lady deserves all the credit and praise for putting together such an educational, terrific event--a NATIONAL BOOK FESTIVAL.
Even the liberals in the audience were forced to applaud! :)

I have heard David McCullough speak here in St. Louis a couple of times, most recently in June. Excellent speaker. And in July, on a long drive out east, we listened to the audio book version of his John Adams. Very well done. The Truman book was good, too.

Libs still try to put her down by saying that she's meek and retiring, and 'only seen by her husband's side' (as if being a loving wife is a bad thing!), but the more she is seen in the role of First Lady as she chooses to play it, the more praise she will get.

Thanks for the PING, ohio! So glad to know that First Lady Laura's kudos are starting to accumulate, and the liberal media cannot help but notice and report! YES!!!

I've always found him a great biographer and an engaging speaker, whether I agree with him or not.

I have been watching c-span most of the afternoon and it has been practically all about the book festival. I have been really disappointed in the fact that almost no newspapers have carried any articles about it. So far, I have only read 2 very short stories.

I would love to be watching c-span. Unfortunately, all TV screens are in the livingroom with a different football game on each. I shall be miserable on Sunday for another 20 weeks!

Thanks for the ping! Nathaniel Philbrick who wrote
In the Heart of the Sea : The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex was interviewed during the Book Festival yesterday. He said that Laura Bush hit a home run with the festival. He was very complimentary too.
The thing I am irked about is the lack of press coverage for this event. One article that was written by AP, the WP and the NYT both copied that article verbatim. If you-know-who had organized this, it would have been the lead story.

His biography "Truman" was one of the most extensive and fairly written books I have read.
