ATF leader Buford retires after 25 years enforcing law
ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE
John W. "Bill" Buford, a fixture in the Arkansas law enforcement community for the past quarter century, retired last week as resident agent in charge of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms in Arkansas.
During Buford's tenure in Arkansas, he investigated numerous high-profile cases and was seriously injured in the 1993 raid on the Branch Davidian religious compound in Waco, Texas.
In June, he was awarded the ATF's prestigious James E. Little "Concern for People" award at a Washington, D.C., ceremony, where he was cited for his work with the Special Olympics and the bureau's peer-support program.
In a letter nominating Buford for the award, Jerry Tate -- the resident agent in charge of the ATF in the district that includes Arkansas -- praised Buford's qualifications.
"[He] has epitomized federal law enforcement in the state of Arkansas for the past quarter-century," Tate wrote. "His concern for people, whether they be fellow law enforcement professionals or the mentally handicapped, is clearly evident, earnest and highly commendable."
Earlier this year, Buford was nominated by U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson as one of two candidates for the post of U.S. marshal in the eastern district of Arkansas.
A U.S. Army veteran, Buford's military honors include the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. This article was published on Saturday, September 8, 2001

"Earlier this year, Buford was nominated by U.S. Sen. Tim Hutchinson as one of two candidates for the post of U.S. marshal in the eastern district of Arkansas." Those Hutchinson boys know how to keep a lid on Mena, don't they?

Buford was the dog who at Waco went into that 2'nd story window from the roof with 2 or 3 other BATF agents, each of whom had been Clinton state trooper guards. Each of those 3-4 BATF agents who went in that window were in body armour head to toe and carrying an automatic rifle. In the gunfight that allegedly ensued inside the government alleges that no church members were killed or injured, but that the church members managed to kill either 2 or 3 BATF agents. Each of those BATF agents had one bullet wound, a fatal wound in the left temple. The government lied about the wounds and then a private autopsy showed only one wound in the left temple to each of these men. It is of course inconceivable that in a gunbattle between the heavily armed government soldiers and the civilians inside would result in such a lopsided result. It is also inconceivable that in a gunfight the wounds are so clean. In other words friends Buford went in that window with 2-3 men who trusted him and then he took them out. He may have shot himself to give himself credibility. Those three BATF agents killed on the first day of the Waco confrontation became just 3 more among the 13 Clinton bodyguards killed between 1992 and 1993. Asa Hutchinson, John Danfourth, George Bush, the entire republican establishment as well as so many others work to protect people like Buford who committed those murders.

I hope you're right about the Marshal position. All too often with these guys, "retirement" doesn't really mean the public is finally safe--they move into something else to cause still more trouble. (I've also noticed that the best way to find out who's most guilty in the worst of the raids is to watch the promotion lists. The bad guys get the promotions.)

And that's real hard footage to find. I understand news agencies now deny its existance. Linda Thompson included it on her video, Waco the Big Lie, but it was footage I'd seen live at the time it happened. I note that some folks have claimed she "faked" that particular footage, but too many people also saw it.

I love that post. Perfect fit.

Has anything good ever come out of Arkansas???

What was Buford's body count? 200? 500?
Does he get an extra gold star for each constitutional violation by his thugs?

Ja. Konzern for ze pipple. For ze chiltren.
Excellent. Zey will buy zat.

"Does he get an extra gold star for each constitutional violation by his thugs?"
No. I believe he gets a new award for his participation in "extra-constitutional action". I heard it's the first time an award has been named after a living legend like this. There is a meager cash stipend that accompanies each issue of it, on the order of $10,000, but that's not the real motivator. The main incentive is the scalp from the victim. It's attached to a leather (lattigo?) strap that can be hung on a 'cross the chest' award belt, kinda like Beauty Pagent participants have.
It's the Lon Horuchi Award.

Everyone's picking up on the "Concern for People", my reaction was "What an Orwellian Award"! War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery.

It is full moon, though, which accounts for how warped Free Republic has been for the last week or so.

Named for Mr. Little, so it's the Little Concern for the People award. I think the thugs revel in this sort of wordsmithing.

"...how warped Free Republic has been for the last week or so." What do you think about the 3 of the 4 agents killed having previously served on Clinton's security--Clinton even mentioned them (at a press meeting, as I recall).
