September 8, 2001 -- WASHINGTON - Rep. Gary Condit has decided not to seek re-election next year - but will resist calls from members of Congress and newspapers in his district to resign, sources said yesterday.

Sources in Washington and Sacramento, Calif., told The Post last night that Condit reached the conclusion that his political career is over in the tumultuous days after his controversial TV appearances last month.

Condit deserves a special edition of the "Darwin Award." Four months of national clamoring over how his misguided penchant for secrecy has sunk his politcal carreer, and to what strategy does Condit resort to next? More secrecy.

As I have said before, either this guy is guilty as sin or he's just plain whacko.

"The ultra-secretive Condit reportedly was furious that word of his decision leaked out to cable TV stations. "

I see, so that explains the strange news reports yesterday. And Rita Cosby was right, Dayton was lying again.......

LOL, why is he "furious"? Is he the only person on the planet that isnt aware of the fact that his political career is finished anyway? What a maroon.

Here's my scenario: Dickie tells Condit he can't run again. Condit says okay as long as you give me a few weeks to make the announcement so I can save face and no ethics investigation. Dickie says fine (lying through his teeth about keeping Condit's not running secret). Somehow Dickie gets a source "close to Condit" to spill the beans for him. Condit gets stabbed in the back (what was the maroon expecting from Dickie anyway?). I'm just not sure whether dayton knew about his boss's decision or was caught flat-footed. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people.

Earth to Dickie: It's still not going away. See you in the papers...

CONDIT TO TELL VOTERS: I'M GONE NEXT YEAR

And I'm sure he'll have a good sob story about how he was driven from his job by the evil public that hounds him. I'll bet he outs the DemonRat leadership for not supporting him. It'll be just like the Chung interview. He'll blame everybody and their dog for his problems.

And the voters ought to tell Condit,

Hell No! You're gone now!

And the voters ought to tell Condit, Hell No! You're gone now!

There's a group of us FReepers who meet in Modesto every Saturday morning for just this reason! And we're planning to be there again this morning.

Wish I could be there with a Hell No you're gone now sign. But alas, it's 2000+ miles away.

Condit is letting out the least damaging punishments in progressive order to see what we'll accept after his lying family's media offensive.

Condit, if you are reading this, RESIGN NOW

Gephardt, if you are reading this, Force Condit off the Intelligence Committee now.

Freepers, Demand resignation now.

If he had an ounce of shame he'd resign now and go into hiding.

"If he had an ounce of shame he'd resign now and go into hiding."

He doesn't have that ounce, but you can rest assured that Condidit will be spending a good deal less time on the floor of the House in the coming year, if, indeed, he stays in Washington all that time. You think he cuts a low profile now? Just wait. By the end of his term, he'll be practically invisible.
