Meteoric or comet oceanic impact makes a good deal of sense. The amount of water vaporized could account for the "forty days and forty nights" (or fourteen, if you wish) of rain, storms, waves, etc, etc.
The forewarning part ("Ding! Noah! I want you to build an ark.") is wide-open for discussion.

"The forewarning part ("Ding! Noah! I want you to build an ark.") is wide-open for discussion." I think Noah got the mesage from all the oceans' rising because of the ice age melt. All travellers everywhere would have been talking about it. It also must have been obvious that the small stream from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea was increasing in intensity before the final 'plug' was swept away. Huh?

In one day, ...all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened., according to the Genesis 7:11 account.
There have been a number of theories to attempt and explain the physical evidence with the Scriptural account.
IMHO, the truth is evident in both.
