Illegal Aliens, Guest Workers, Borders

With reference to Rep. Tom Tancredo's 5 Sep 2001 Special Orders speech, isn't the real question concerning what to do about the illegal aliens who are invading this nation in ever increasing numbers about whether the United States should maintain its borders or not?

Rather than the U.S. Congress spend hours, days, & weeks discussing the pros & cons of 'guest workers' or amnesty or whatever, why don't they just vote if this country's borders are to be abolished or not?

If this nation is to have borders then this nation has a right to defend them to keep people from entering illegally. I recommend that all readers write/contact their representatives to let them know whether this country should keep or abolish its borders & demand that they vote on the issue before trying to write laws on how 'guest workers' will be registered or monitored or how to keep them from voting illegally in federal elections, collecting welfare/SSI benefits, subsidized housing, Medicare/Medicaid, & all the other state & federal funded assistance programs, i.e. 'Affirmative Action' & 'ADA'.

The recent Gallup poll indicates only 6% of those polled favored granting amnesty, & surprisingly, 65% of Hispanics are not in favor of the amnesty!

What I find most disturbing of all that there are Americans in need of employment, but they would rather collect government welfare than work at jobs they feel demeaning or beneath their dignity. Indeed! During the 1930's, my entire family did any work they could find - load & unload trucks & railcars, shovel coal into furnace stokers, work in warehouses, collect & sell scrap, & my mother took in laundry, scrubbed floors, & washed windows - like many others on our block where we lived. No job was demeaning or beneath anyone's dignity then, but then some will say "...things are different now." Yes, they surely are!
