Belgium suspends Sharon war crimes probe
BBC ^ | 9/07

Posted on 09/07/2001 2:47:17 PM PDT by oxi-nato

The Belgian authorities have suspended an investigation into whether the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, should be charged with crimes against humanity. The examining magistrate said the suspension would allow an appeals court to decide first whether he had the authority to pursue the case.

Lawyers for Mr Sharon argue that the Belgian investigation violates Israel's judicial sovereignty. Two civil lawsuits have been brought against Mr Sharon by survivors and families of those killed in the 1982 massacre of Palestinians by Lebanese militiamen at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps.

The massacre happened during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, which was led by Mr Sharon -- then the Israeli Defence Minister. Under Belgian law, its courts can try those accused of war crimes that occurred in another country.

Hmmm... I wonder if the Duremburg rally had something to do with that.

This is good news... I wonder if there was a quid pro quo here? Did Kissinger perhaps wake up and realize he might be next in this court? What about ole what's his name down in Chile... or Argentina? (I can't keep up with them all.) Will the dogs be sicced off of Fujimori of Peru?

I'm sure Pinochet and Milosevic will be happy to hear this. I really think it's disgusting that some countries have their sovereignty ignored while others are respected, all at the discretion of whom?

I'm sorry all of you Isreali cheerleaders, but this is a big steaming pile of BS.

I , IMHO, believe that the reason why the Belgians decided to back away from prosecuting Sharon is an obvious one. They are scared of Israel. Israeli intelligence started a program about 5 months ago to gather data on the whole International Crime Tribunal. If any Israelis were grabbed by the Belgians or the Hague, then Israeli Mossad would send a commando or special espionage assassination unit to liberate them. Israeli intelligence is feared worldwide. They were trained by Russian KGB and GRU as well as by British MI5 and French DGSE. Belgium also is aware that Israel has dossiers showing the crimes and dirty works of top NATO ringleaders. Israel has the best cards in the game,so to speak, and NATO knows it.

The real reason that NATO hates Sharon and is after him is because he backed the Serbs during the NATO war on them.

I am knowledgeable about Israeli intelligence. Israel is sometimes underrated by the world in terms of its range of power, but remember that Adolf Eichmann was living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which is 9 times farther away from Israel than Belgium and the Netherlands are. Israeli agents grabbed Eichmann right out of his car in a traffic intersection in a suburb of Buenos Aires. I do however feel that Israel set a bad example to the world. They were early pioneers in the universal prosecution of war crimes suspects. I think that maybe the monster that they helped to create is turning on them.

The Mafia is cub scouts compared to Israeli intelligence. Israeli intelligence would have shut the whole Vatican down years ago if it had not been for Simon Weisenthal working both sides of the fence. As we all know the Mafia is a thug arm of the Vatican.Israeli intelligence took a lot of Stalin's ideas into their arsenal. As all good researchers of history know, Josef Stalin was the master of subversion and compromise. He had dossiers of tens of thousands of people worldwide. He used them to keep them in line. Israeli intelligence has dossiers similar to Stalin's. I find it very amusing that the same people who find it hard to believe that Israel could assemble dossiers like this, are the same people who believe that Bill Clinton had dossiers of Republicans in Congress.Strange isn't it? Clinton probably had dossiers of all sorts of potential rivals no doubt, but that is a old tactic of Espionage. In layman terms it is called blackmail.

You're on the wrong forum, Steve. Since Israel's way of action in the Eichman case is a monster for you, not Eichman himself - this gentleman you glorify as a war crime suspect(?!) - you better go mix with some neo-Nazi crowd. You just have no place among decent folks, Right or Left.

Eichmann got his right justice. Israel did the correct thing. I just am worried that NATO is trying to use Israeli tactics against Israel. I am a Jew living in the USA. I am no Nazi.

No Jew, even an asshole, deserves to be called a Nazi. I do apologise for my mistake. However, I've been mislead by your deep feelings toward Israeli intelligence - common to those of Victor Ostrovski, a Canadian Jew and a Mossad operative turned traitor. He is the author of numerous squibs about his former employer and a pet source of quotations for all Arab-prop scribblers. You're in a noble company, mate.
