EDINBURGH, Scotland -- Proposed rules on spanking are being hit with criticism from both sides in Scotland.
Scotland's ruling executive is pushing the rules, which would make it illegal to spank toddlers. The plans have to be approved by the Scottish Parliament.
Opposition lawmakers say they violate parents' rights. But children's charities say the proposals don't go far enough.
The proposals would make it illegal to strike a child under three. It would also ban such punishment by child-sitters and in child-care centers.
A spokeswoman for a children's charity says Scotland should join several European countries in banning physical punishment of children. But a Conservative Party spokeswoman says the measure prevents "reasonable punishment."
I say beat em like a baby harp seal!!!
And what of Single Malt Scotch? Eh haggis?
