From most of the figures I've seen for tanks...can the T-90 withstand DOUBLING its weight? That's what adding THAT much armor would do.

How much armor are you talking about. Double weight. Much of the weight on a tank comes from power plant and fuel and suspension system and tracks. Armor is maybe 1/2 to 1/3 of the weight. Secondly, you'd only armor the crew compartments, which reduces area a lot.
