Actually, the quality of the WSJ editorial page has declined, but not for any of the reasons mentioned in this article. Their editorials are less fact based, less thoughtful, less fashioned in the form of a carefully constructed argument, more conclusionary, and more partisan. The WSJ editorials used to be works of art, and head and shoulders above any other daily newpaper. They no longer are, and I say that with great sadness and frustration. I say this as one that agrees with the majority of their biases and conclusions. But it is a sugered donut, not a creme boulet.

I disagree... This BS neo-cons like Gigot spout off is rather absurd... Massive immigration is suicide for the Republican party... It is... Our entire immigration policy should be based on educated skilled self sufficient people... When 2 Nobel Laureate economists, Gary Becker and Milton Friedman both say that mass immigration with a welfare state does nothing but grow government then methinks the people running the editorial page at the Journal need serious time in the rubber room

I've been a subscriber for quite a while now and I've not noticed a decrease in the quality of their editorial writing. OTOH I've noticed a quite marked increase in left-leaning bias in their DC political news. David Rogers (an Al Hunt protege I'm sure) invariably writes with a pro-Dem slant.

You write well. Your argument has merit. Although I haven't subscribed to the Journal since the early 80's, I believe you. In general, intellectual discourse has declined in this country which was inevitable no matter which side of the political spectrum. Education in America has specifically crippled the student's faculty of thought. We are witnessing the results everywhere.
