STRASBOURG, France (Reuters) - The European Parliament urged European Union (news - web sites) governments Wednesday to join forces in the fight against politically inspired violence in the 15-nation bloc.
The assembly adopted by an overwhelming majority a recommendation calling for the EU to adopt common anti-terrorism laws, abolish formal extradition procedures and introduce a Europe-wide search and arrest warrant for high-profile suspects. ``Some may regard such measures as extreme. I believe that all are justified in tackling a form of crime designed to destroy democracy based on the rule of law,'' said British Liberal Democrat deputy Graham Watson, who authored the recommendation.
He voiced hope that the EU's executive Commission and member governments would respond promptly to the Parliament's call. In fact, the Commission already plans to present several proposals this month on common EU legislation against terrorism and Justice Commissioner Antonio Vitorino said this would respond to the assembly's call.
``Terrorist activities should never be considered political crimes or linked to political reasoning,'' Vitorino told the parliament. He added that the Commission was also preparing to present a paper on compensation for victims of ``terrorist acts.''
Deputies from European regions which have been shaken by political violence such as the Spanish Basque region and Northern Ireland welcomed the report. ``Thank you very much for this decision we are taking,'' said an emotional Spanish Socialist deputy, Rosa Diez Gonzales. More than 800 people have been killed in Spain during the separatist movement ETA's 30-year campaign for an independent Basque state.
Northern Irish deputy Ian Paisley from the hard-line Protestant Democratic Unionist Party said introducing common EU laws would put an end to sanctuaries for ``terrorists'' in the EU. However, the report was also criticized by some Euro MPs who feared political freedom and civil liberties could be violated without a very precise definition of what is considered to be terrorist activity.
hmmm.... Macedonia? ``Terrorist activities should never be considered political crimes or linked to political reasoning,
hmmmm..... Macedonia? compensation for victims of ``terrorist acts.''
JUMP FOR JOY!!!! Yugoslavia and Macedonia are going to be RICH!!! FILTHY RICH!!!! (sarcasm) More than 800 people have been killed in Spain during the separatist movement ETA's 30-year campaign for an independent Basque state
Hello Solana, Robertson and the rest of the heideous creatures that comprise the NWO err... NATO... Time for another intervention to teach the Spanish about democracy... introducing common EU laws would put an end to sanctuaries for ``terrorists'' in the EU.
CALLING NATO.... CALLING NATO.... TIME TO BOMB YOURSELF.....
Oh, and remember, the Balkans is not in Europe. Why? Because NATOs defense against its bombing of RTB is that Yugoslavia at that time was not a signatory to the European Convention of Human Rights. Face it, the Slavs are considered as evil scum in the 'free' West. They have no rights.

Europa was also a region in Thrace by Mount Haemus (Bulgaria in Antiquity), as well as a Roman province in southeastern Bulgaria and the seat of the Europos Eparchy in Maximinopolis (present day Gumurdjina) during Roman rule (1-6thc.AD)

Balkans is not in Europe Not in the EU thats for sure, but they are in Europe geographically.... I don't see why an invisible border should be used (EU) to determine who deserves to be terrorised and who doesn't.... Does this mean that a terrorist can stand in Albania and shoot into Greece and get away with it, because Albania isn't considered European and therefore these new laws have no jurisdiction over them? I don't think so.... (unless NATO intervenes)
Face it, the Slavs are considered as evil scum in the 'free' West. They have no rights. I know this, and have always thought/believed that the West (NATO) will not stop until every Orthodox nation (Slavs are nearly all Orthodox) has been destroyed....
Just out of curiosity, are you a "slav" (never liked calling people this)? I always thought you were, just not sure from where.... (Russia?)
Exactly!!!
Where are you from?
