Nevada voters approved Question 6 on Tuesday, placing a right to abortion in the state constitution and delivering a heartbreaking setback for unborn children and those working to protect them.
The measure passed with approximately 63 percent of the vote. It was the second and final required approval after voters first backed it in 2024.
The amendment establishes a constitutional right to abortion until fetal viability but essentially up to birth because an abortionist can sign of on late-term abortions for any reason. Abortion has been legal in Nevada up to 24 weeks under a 1990 statute; opponents said the constitutional change removes key safeguards and expands access later in pregnancy.
“A vote can change a constitution, but it cannot change the humanity of an unborn child and the need to protect women,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. “This outcome is deeply disappointing, but it does not diminish our responsibility to defend vulnerable lives and help mothers facing difficult circumstances.”
National Right to Life commended its state affiliate, Nevada Right to Life, and the grassroots advocates who worked to prevent the measure’s passage.
“We are grateful to our state affiliate, Nevada Right to Life, and the dedicated volunteers and supporters who worked tirelessly to defeat this amendment,” Tobias said. “Their efforts brought the truth about this measure to voters and gave a voice to unborn children. This result does not end our work. We will continue to defend unborn children, support their mothers, and work toward the day when both are protected in law and welcomed in life.”
In an official statement, Nevada Right to Life called the results heartbreaking and said the battle to defend preborn babies, women, and young girls does not end. The group warned that the amendment could lead to challenges against parental notification requirements, allow non-doctors to perform or administer abortions, weaken clinic regulations and inspections, limit restrictions on third-trimester procedures, and threaten conscience rights for hospitals, churches, doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel.
“Many believed we were exaggerating. We shall see,” the statement said. “Rest assured, Nevada Right to Life will continue the fight. We will lobby in the legislature, watching and sounding the alarm for all threats to life. We will take the fight to the courts. We will stand in the public square.”
The organization added that while the results are devastating and tragic, they do not relieve anyone of the call to fight for the weakest and most vulnerable among us — the precious preborn baby, the frightened mother, the medically vulnerable, and the elderly.
“Life matters today. Life matters tomorrow.”

Last time I visited Los Vegas for a conference, I was appalled at the number of prostitutes, and their “helpers” on the strip.
The most jarring aspect was all the people handing out cards with numbers for services.
This was two decades ago, and I would never return. It does make sense that abortion up to birth would serve the “hospitality” industry well.
Yikes 😬😬😬😬
