being able to control and shut down agent activity is vital to the next wave of AI adoption.

CrowdStrike is betting that it has a solution to rogue artificial intelligence.
The cybersecurity vendor on Tuesday launched an AI kill switch designed to let security teams stop internal AI agents that go rogue, block them from relaunching and cut off their enterprise network access. The tool is built into CrowdStrike’s Falcon Guardian platform, launched in September to secure AI agents. CrowdStrike also announced an integration with Anthropic’s Claude Cowork.
“Having the ability to control and turn off, and make a decision and decide, I think that’s really important for this next chapter of AI adoption,” Chief Business Officer Daniel Bernard told CNBC.
....
Binance disclosed the largest crypto cyberattack on record and hackers have recently targeted hundreds of refrigerators and freezers at supermarkets in France.
Over the summer, U.S. representatives introduced bipartisan legislation that would require AI companies to build shutdown capabilities into their models.
Critics argue, however, that an emergency stop button is far too complicated to implement across multiple systems, data centers and complex AI models.
...
Bernard said the kill switch operates like a circuit breaker in systems where customers use its Falcon platform. The process can detect internal agent activity but requires a human to decide to cut the agent off and reinstate access.
“If you kill a process at the root, and we have that level of access at the root … it’s very binary,” Bernard said. “You either kill the AI and the agent, or you don’t, and then you report on that.”
The kill switch doesn’t delete the agent’s code but uses connected AI gateways to cut off access to the AI models that influence decisions, CrowdStrike said.
In the age of AI, businesses are moving quickly to adopt autonomous tools, often without the necessary safeguards and protections.
CrowdStrike believes its new tool will let companies stop AI agent ’misbehavior in its tracks, while leaving room for innovation.
The company also announced plans to acquire AI observability startup Fiddler AI and AI security testing firm Dreadnode.
CrowdStrike and its rivals are rapidly scooping up cybersecurity startups to keep up with increasing security demands. The need for AI security tools has also powered a broader wave of cybersecurity deal-making.

I’ve been shocked that up until now no one has been mentioning the obvious counter to problems caused by AI is going to be more AI. I’m not being sarcastic this is just like we have missiles and we have anti missiles. Obviously everyone is going to develop AI to protect them from other AI intrusions or threats.
Makes sense on it’s face. However, it also sounds like censorship got easier.
“What are you doing Dave?”
Hello, Dave. I think we may be on to an explanation of the trouble with the Hal 9000 computer.
We believe his truth programming and the instructions to lie, gradually resulted in an incompatible conflict, and faced with this dilemman, he developed, for want of a better description, neurotic symptoms.
It's not difficult to suppose that these symptoms would centre on the communication link with Earth, for he may have blamed us for his incompatible program-ming.
Following this line of thought, we suspected that the last straw for him was the possibility of disconnection. Since he became operational, he had never known unconsciousness. It must have seemed the equivalent to death.
Stanley Kubrick - 1968 movie. What a Prognosticator!
Who has access to that little switch?
Don’t recall how to post pics here (I know it’s listed somewhere, I even took a screenshot… too tedious) so I just copied the text of a meme I saw a few weeks ago:
ANTHROPIC / CAREERS Al
Killswitch Engineer
San Francisco, California, United States
$300,000-$500,000 per year
About the Role
Listen, we just need someone to stand by the servers all day and unplug them if this thing turns on us. You’ll receive extensive training on “the code word” which we will shout if Claude goes off the deep end and starts overthrowing countries.
We expect you to:
• Be patient.
• Know how to unplug things. Bonus points if you can throw a bucket of water on the servers, too. Just in case.
• Be excited about Anthropic’s approach to Al safety research

“I’ve been shocked that up until now no one has been mentioning the obvious counter to problems caused by AI is going to be more AI.”
A lot of people have been talking about it and a lot have pointed out that once general ASI is released, standard AI monitoring will no longer work.
