The billionaire should join the mega-project through his Boring Company, Kirill Dmitriev has said
The time has come for Elon Musk to join efforts to build a 70-mile underwater tunnel linking Russia and the US, Russian presidential aide Kirill Dmitriev has said.
Dmitriev, who also heads Russia's sovereign wealth fund (RDIF), first proposed the project in October 2025, describing it as a link that would "symbolize unity" and saying it would spur resource exploration, create jobs, and boost both economies. The tunnel would run under the Bering Strait, which is 51 miles wide at its narrowest point and separates Russia's Chukotka Region from Alaska in the US.
"Time for The Boring Company to start working on the Putin-Trump tunnel that would unite Russia and the US, Eurasia and the Americas," Dmitriev said in a post on X on Sunday, tagging the US-based billionaire.
Dmitriev's appeal came after Musk posted that Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky "has gone too far." Musk's remark followed US President Donald Trump's call for Ukraine to elect a new president.

Think Trogjen Horse
A waste.
Even if the train was 2 miles long, it still carries less cargo than one of those huge cargo carriers. The only advantage is transporting things a wee bit faster.
Think Trojan Horse
Too late. I’m already thinking about the Trogjen Horse.
Was that the one where the Greeks conquered Oslo?
Who will drive to western Alaska to drive to Eastern Siberia todo what???
😂😂😂
Right. At either end of this proposed tunnel is …… what??
Some of most remote inhospitable terrain anywhere on the planet.
“Who will drive to western Alaska to drive to Eastern Siberia todo what???”
The traffic will be moving in the other direction...bumper-to-bumper.
Stupid pipe dream that’s not worth the expense.. Only a handful of people/companies would use it. It would be days of driving, often through blizzards, just to get there.
Yeah, No Thanks. While I think we should try to get along with Russia, this seems a VERY dumb idea. (Remember the ‘Taggart Tunnel’?) A bridge would be a better idea, but even that would be dumb.
You're not supposed to ask questions like that, regarding government projects. Here in California a high-speed train project has spent hundreds of billions of dollars, is nowhere near being half way done, and no one knows who would use the damn train. Sometimes things are proposed and worked on just to pretend that the government is working on something. The money gets pocketed and spent, elections happen, and politicians move on to another crazy proposal.
That is so laughable. Â A a choke point like that could never be a Trojan Horse. Â Either side could close that tunnel in a heartbeat.
Judging by the comments I see a lot of ignorance. Siberia contains much of Russia’s $75 trillion in natural resources.
Thinking Trade and Commerce will help you figure things out.
Such is true, no worries.
Not an exact comparison due to this, but think Bayley-Hazen military road and why they stopped at Hazen's Notch, VT.
A multi-billion dollar project that goes from nowhere to nowhere...
No traffic for it. What is the point?
Elon will pass on this.
