Anger is rising on the Falkland Islands after Argentinian visitors were reportedly caught waving their national flag and political banners that deny British sovereignty, triggering open calls from islanders to bar them altogether. Falkland Islands Television described a sharp increase in such incidents over recent weeks as international attention on the territory has intensified. Some residents have demanded a ban on arrivals from Argentina. Legislative Assembly member Michael Goss addressed the growing fury head-on.
He said: “In the community, who have been quite vocal about the fact of wanting to prevent Argentinian visitors coming into the islands, and whilst I am not opposed to that, we have to be realistic of what falls in the legalities of the lay of the land and the law, so we can’t turn around and directly stop people coming in at this moment in time.”
Mr Goss confirmed the Assembly has already begun examining options. Mr Goss said: “At this moment in time, we have been looking at the early points of this assembly of ways and means that we could actually look to potentially put a stop to things like this, but ultimately, again, it falls down into what we can do legally. But it also comes down to administration.”
He made clear his own position, saying: “A stronger stance against this does need to happen. We have got to make sure that we’re not going to be seeing more and more and more incidents of people who are quote unquote visiting the Falkland Islands to further a political agenda — it’s not acceptable.”
The MLA linked the flag displays to wider Argentine campaigning. Mr Goss added: “We’re hearing a lot of noise coming from Argentina."

When one reads the British press, oddly the total population stat is absent. It not so much that there is worry about the archipelago as a "British Overseas Territory," but there is an oil business nearby. The Sea Lion Field, about 140 miles north in the ocean. A big oil field....
This is about money, of course. And who gets it....
Wait’ll the Brits send “assault rowboats” from the Caliphate of Musland to deal with this uprising... 😂😂😂
If they can find enough Pakis, or press-gang some of the invading boat people...
The infantry company stationed on the islands, the air defense, combat engineer, electronic warfare and EOD detachments stationed on the islands, and the islands’ reserve infantry platoon (which has regular army officers) can handle anything that comes up.
It is completely weird. Under international law, Argentina doesn’t even have a valid philosophical, moral, or legal argument at all.
Their entire schtick is basically
- It’s vaguely near our waters
- this one time at band camp a Papal Bull gave it to Spain
- We’re utterly dependent on colonialism as a defense
- We needed a Yank privateer and a Hugenot to get British permission to attempt to settle on the Falklands under British jurisdiction, and because we nearly made that work for about a decade before the USA evicted us, we think that constitutes a valid claim.
If it weren’t for the fact that half the world is still miffed about European colonialism, and demanding reparations for it / cheering on anybody who’ll give Britain a bloody nose, the United Nations would’ve ruled the Argentine claim to be arrant bullcrap decades ago.
The weird thing is, it wasn’t even the Brits who’d screwed pre-independent Argentina over for decades. That was Spain. Argentina didn’t fight the British for their independence. The British, by contrast, sought trade with the River Plate, facilitated a settlement on the islands, and even rescued the crews of Buenos Aires sponsored ships when they arrived on the islands close to death from thirst, starvation and sickness.
Never let a good deed go unpunished, I suppose...
They won’t get any help from the Brits.
Thatcher types are hard to find…if they even exist there anymore.
They'd best check with their Muslim overlords back in the Caliphate before they do anything...
Declare independence. That will settle it.
But will they still be there in 2050?
Probably not...
So much temptation for them due to all the sheep on the island. cough cough
I’ve never been to the Falklands, but I imagine the people there are like the Rhodesians - they are loyal to a memory of Britain that disappeared 50+ years ago
And like the Rhodesians, the regime in London hates them because they are too white and too conservative.
By all means, ban visitors from Argentina. No way should the locals tolerate affronts to their sovereignty.
Argentina's claim boils down to "the islands are nearby and we want them".
They have nothing else.
They have no historical claim. The people are Brits and there is zero support for becoming Argentine among the locals.
Do others get to claim land near their borders on the basis of "cuz we want it"???
It's still 1976 in the Falklands.
The Royal Navy literally has more admirals than ships.
If the Falklands were ever cut off by the Argies the islanders would starve.
That's the key to defeating Britain.
Either by warfare, unchecked immigration(underway) or blockade it or economically cut it off.
In all of WW2 Churchill said it was the “UBoat peril’’ that terrified him the most.
“If the Falklands were ever cut off by the Argies the islanders would starve.”
that’s the part i’ve been wondering about: how self-sufficient are the Faulkins, how much essential supplies do they have to ship in, and whence come said suppplies?
What struck me, among a few things about the Falklands was how remote and DESOLATE they are.
There's hardly a blade of grass or a single tree on the whole island.
And other than what I could see around the little homes of islanders, that is, little vegetable gardens, organically there isn't anything edible to sustain even a small population let alone grow anything that would.
I didn't see any cattle or live stock. And there's no feed to give animals like that anyway, no way to grow it.
Everything that comes onto that island has to be bought there and it must be expensive.
With fuel costs being what they are if the Falklands ARE ever in trouble somebody in the Admiralty is going to have to go back to the days of wind and sail to get supplies there. England has always been vulnerable to isolation because it's an island and simply because they survived attempts by aggressors to starve them out, isolation and starvation are still a real possibility for Britons.
Maybe you should hear the Argentine side before you mock their claims. This is from a friend in Argentina.
“ At Argentina, we are aware of who we are historically. We are a former Spanish colony, or even something higher than just a former colony—more precisely, a former viceroyalty. When we fought for our independence, which we did, and we were crucial for our freedom and the freedom of what today are neighboring countries, there was a clear intention to keep governing over what had been Spanish domains; we didn’t declare our independence to leave this place. -—— The Malvinas were clearly under Spanish rule, and we continued appointing a governor there. It was this administration that was forcibly expelled by Great Britain, and since then we haven’t stopped claiming them. -—— That’s why it seems unfair to us that the return of our islands is dependent on a plebiscite of a population implanted by Great Britain. It’s simply absurd, it’s like someone stealing your house and then telling you they’ll give it back if the people using it agree, simply absurd. -—— That the people there are not thrown out by a future Argentine administration and are absorbed as residents of Argentina if they want, is something good and desirable; but they don’t have a vote to decide if we take back our sovereignty there or not. -—— Let’s hope this injustice is solved someday and that Great Britain rethinks and properly returns what is ours. War is only an option for those who want to see us in serious trouble. -—— Sadly, it seems like there will be a world war, the future is bleak for humanity, Great Britain will no doubt be heavily demanded in such a situation, and all the resources and military forces it maintains in the Malvinas will be more than necessary elsewhere. For our part, we Argentinians should strengthen our armed forces, not to take the Falklands by force, and far less to fight against our neighbors, but to protect ourselves in a global situation that every day becomes more dangerous for everyone and at the same time be supportive of our neighbors; we are a democratic and peaceful country that wants to live in peace with our neighbors and we do not deserve what is happening. Regards.”
