A new migrant caravan is moving north through Mexico toward the United States — and White House Border Czar Tom Homan is warning migrants not to expect the welcome that previous caravans encountered during the Biden years.
Homan delivered a direct message as federal officials monitor the “Fe y Esperanza,” or “Faith and Hope,” caravan traveling through southern Mexico.
Migrants who attempt to illegally enter the United States will not be released into the country, Homan said.
“They’ll be immediately turned around, or they’ll be arrested and prosecuted and deported,” Homan said.
The caravan began its journey from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on September 20 with several hundred migrants before crossing Guatemala and entering Mexico. Estimates of its size have varied as additional migrants joined the group, with some reports placing it at roughly 600 people.
The group includes migrants from Honduras and several other Central American, Caribbean and South American countries. Some have said they hope to reach the United States, while others reportedly intend to remain in Mexico.
Homan made clear that reaching the U.S. border will not result in release into the American interior.
“Zero releases from the border under the Trump administration,” Homan said. “President Trump promised that. He’s going to keep that promise.”
Homan also raised the possibility of removing migrants to third countries when their home governments are slow to accept returning nationals.
That warning comes as the Trump administration points to a dramatic shift in enforcement at the southern border.
DHS and Customs and Border Protection announced earlier this month that Border Patrol had recorded 16 consecutive months without releasing migrants directly from border custody into the United States. The agencies also said illegal crossings and apprehensions had fallen to levels not seen in decades.
The approaching caravan is putting that enforcement posture to an early test.
The group remains hundreds of miles from the U.S. border, and reporting has not established exactly where — or whether the entire caravan — will ultimately attempt to cross.
But the administration is already trying to prevent the situation from reaching that point.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said U.S. officials have been communicating with the Mexican government, which he said is helping disperse the caravan before it reaches the United States.
“The caravan has zero chance of coming into our country,” Mullin said.
Mullin said the administration could shift additional federal resources toward the southern border if necessary, including personnel from across DHS and the Coast Guard.
DHS has separately confirmed that Border Patrol is tracking the caravan and coordinating with international partners as it moves through Mexico.
The department warned that anyone attempting to illegally enter the United States faces apprehension, prosecution and removal.
Mexican intervention could ultimately prevent much of the caravan from getting anywhere near American territory.
Previous migrant caravans have fragmented or dissolved while traveling through Mexico, and Mullin said Mexican officials understand that the Trump administration does not intend to allow the current group to enter illegally.
“They are not entering,” Mullin said.
For migrants still considering the journey north, the administration’s message is increasingly difficult to misunderstand.
There will be no return to catch-and-release.
There will be no assumption that reaching American soil guarantees release into the country.
And if the caravan eventually reaches the southern border, Homan says federal authorities are prepared to turn illegal crossers around, arrest them, prosecute them or remove them.
The caravan is still moving north.
The Trump administration is telling them the border remains closed.

Who might ultimately be behind (organizing, funding, etc.) such a “migrant caravan”?
Great photo. Thanks.
“Who might ultimately be behind (organizing, funding, etc.) such a “migrant caravan”?”
My default guess would be George Soros, but there are plenty of other bad actors who want to damage the US as badly as him. So, who knows?
Is Mexico that stupid to allow these people pass through believing somehow they will get into America??
My guess would be that whoever is financing this planned invasion will ante up some money to bribe the appropriate Mexican authorities for passage through the country.
For defending against invading enemy combatants, there are flamethrowers, Claymore mines, machine guns, tear gas, and the crowd-control 95 GHz heat ray, for starters.
This is probably being organized by NGO personnel that had money set aside in a contingency fund in case they needed to stage border theatrics to influence an election.
Fill water tanker planes with cow manure and dump on this filthy caravan organized by the Islamocommie party!
Why is Mexico allowing this caravan to cross their country? Who is paying for the food and water and other supplies needed by the caravan? Why are these questions never answered?
Timing so close to the midterms is suspicious.
Probably not a guess but a fact...
THE PRESIDENT OF MEXICO BETTER STEP IN STOP THEM.
SHE NEEDS ALL THE GOODWILL WITH TRUMP SHE CAN MUSTER.
THE CATHOLIC CHURCH WAS BEHIND THE MOVEMENT OF MANY PRIOR INVADERS
The is “news” with an agenda, what is it?
He should have gone further and said that he now will send them to THIRD COUNTRIES, as in Africa, and the Supreme Court just gave him that authority. Of course he doesn’t have to waste the expense of sending them to Africa, but the thought of it would likely scare the crap out of the migrants, rather than the worst case being a trip back home to Honduras.
I know, the Catholic Charities NGO.
Most of them could use a shower !!
Be sure to use plenty of soap !!
