Fremont — a former U.S. senator for whom the Bay Area city of Fremont is named — from a state park on a prominent peak in San Benito County.

Fremont also founded the California Republican Party. He was one of the first two United States senators from California, in 1850, as it was admitted to the United States during the Gold Rush. In 1856, he became the first nominee for president of the newly formed Republican Party, running on an anti-slavery platform. He lost to Democrat James Buchanan. He later was an officer in the Union Army during the Civil War, and was fired by President Lincoln in 1861 for issuing an emancipation order in Missouri to slaves without Lincoln’s approval.

Is it ok to cite the violence of the Native Americans against the white settlers? Or the violence of one native tribe against other native tribes? They lived in a state of almost perpetual warfare.
Fremont is known for being a Union general who issued an Emancipation Edict to free slaves.
It looks like Newsom is putting himself out as a clear opponent of the Republicans of the 1860’s who freed the slaves. Fremont was an early Republican Party leader.

John Charles Frémont was born on January 21, 1813, the son of Charles Frémon, a French-Canadian immigrant, and Anne Beverley Whiting, the youngest daughter of socially prominent Virginia planter Col. Thomas Whiting. At age 17, Anne had married Major John Pryor, a wealthy resident of Richmond in his early 60s. In 1810, Pryor hired Frémon to teach his young wife French. The two began an affair, and Pryor, on discovering this, turned them out of the house. The couple fled first to Norfolk and then to Williamsburg, taking with them several household slaves Anne had inherited. They later settled in Savannah, Georgia, where Anne gave birth to their first son. In Savannah, Anne took in boarders while Frémon taught French and dancing. Their domestic slave, Black Hannah, helped raise young John. The couple, still unmarried, had three more children.So, shouldn't Newsom be celebrating Fremont since he was the "illegitimate" offspring of his mother and father, the result of a tryst they had while she was married to her first husband? Or are should Newsom be mad that she didn't abort him? Or strangle him at age 5?

That is correct but oddly the warfare was mostly local. It was done on foot thus the range of warfare was limited.
Then came the Spanish and horses. Oddly the origin of the horse was in the Americas, but it died out. However, it had spread to Asia before its die out. It later became the magnificent horse.
Horses escaped and became wild. The Indians captured and bred them, and they thus became a new calvary. Indians could now raid each other over great distance.
The horse changed all the dynamics of Indian warfare against each other and the calvery.
They have not liked slaveowners, now they are disliking even antislavery guys!
