Prime Minister Andy Burham has said his government will be "relentless" in working towards stopping small boat crossings completely, but he would not set a date on when that could be achieved.
In an interview with BBC South East, just days after two migrant vessels reached the Kent coast unintercepted, he backed Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood's call for a review into the landings, saying he wanted "urgent answers".
Burnham said there would be "no complacency" in the crackdown on the people smuggling gangs behind the operation.
"We will not stop until we bear down on every element of this criminal activity in a way that gets the numbers right down," he said.
As well as the vessels which came ashore at Samphire Hoe, between Dover and Folkestone, on Tuesday, and near Folkestone on Monday, a total of 781 migrants arrived in 10 small boats on Wednesday.
This is currently the highest number for a single day this year, according to Home Office figures.
However, Burnham said the numbers, in total, had come down.
Speaking to the BBC ahead of the Labour conference on Sunday, he said: "You have to look at the overall trend - crossings were down by a half across the summer and down 50% on a few years ago, so that's major progress on where we were."

A Labour Party politician saying he is intent upon stopping the flood of immigrants coming in illegally? Shades of Keir Starmer.
Why don’t they just announce that from now on they will sink any boat that attempts the crossing. They’d probably only have to sink 3 or 4 to get the point across. As someone pointed out, they didn’t let the Nazis land, but any third world loser gets welcomed with open arms. I DON’T GET IT.

LOL sure, the browning of London and extinction of the White man over there will continue.
Yet somehow Danny Tommo, the Brit who poked some holes in the pontoons on the last boat that dropped its human cargo on British shores, got arrested for doing the job the British government won’t. It was going to return to France for the next load and he (allegedly) damaged it to delay reuse.
They are studying the problem
The date of achievement is the 12th of never.
Should be fairly easy to do. Sink a couple. Be consistent. Word will get out the coast is closed.
