A total of 781 migrants arrived in 10 small boats on Wednesday, the highest number for a single day so far this year, Home Office figures show.
So far this year 18,565 people have made the Channel crossing, which is 42% lower than the same period in 2025 when 32,188 had crossed in small boats.
The government said its "progress this year in tackling small boats is indisputable" but it needed to "push further and harder in order to eradicate this vile trade".
French authorities reported on Thursday that a man had died after having a cardiac arrest while people attempted to board a vessel at a beach south of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Wednesday's figures include a dinghy carrying 51 people which departed from Normandy, much further west than small boats typically set off, on Monday morning and spent more than 33 hours at sea.
About 150 people crossed from France in three small boats on both Monday and Tuesday. This followed five days with no crossings at all.

Saw a video of some angry British citizens going out to sea and slashing the rubber dinghies so that they could not go back to France to pick up more people. Only the smugglers were on board and they were not too far from shore that they would drown... but I imagine these citizens are going to be jailed.

Seems like Britain needs some lessons in how to turn those boats around before they reach shore.
They got it all figured out. They pay France to stop them from leaving. It’s a perfect system - for politicians. They get to put the blame on a foreign country.
An average of 78 per “small” boat? That’s not small. Small is my uncle’s bass boat that could hold two people and enough beer for a fishing trip... or six people if you don’t bring the beer. But then why even go?
Worth remembering that Joe Biden was letting more than TEN TIMES that number into the US, EVERY SINGLE MONTH - reportedly 10 MILLION during his 4 years occupying the White House...

Yes, indeed. It still sucks but it’s definitely better than stage 4. Besides, it’s actually rather like a tumour shrinking, and that’s most certainly a good thing.
