The British military has been jamming or blocking satellites from other countries in order to defend itself from hostile threats, the BBC has been told.
The RAF has been using a ground-based system for the past year, which a defence source said had already been used "to deter our adversaries".
It is understood the system could be used to prevent a hostile nation's satellites from tracking the movement of the UK's nuclear armed submarines or other sensitive military operations, such as those involving special forces.
It comes as the head of the RAF said the UK faced "unprecedented threats" from adversaries in space, coinciding with the creation of a new RAF unit set up to defend Britain's satellites.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the new Space Effects Squadron will be focused on "disrupting, degrading and denying hostile threats in space".
In a speech on Wednesday, Defence Secretary Wes Streeting said daily lives depend on satellites that power everyday technologies like mobile phones and banking apps, adding the loss of GPS would cost the UK economy ยฃ1.4bn a day.

Just a guess, but such stories can distract the population from the many serious problems the UK is facing.
UK political/media class have been pounding the war drums lately, with talk of conscription, reactivation of veterans, etc, etc. This does not appear to include increased funding with regard to ships, aircraft, tanks or artillery, however, which leads even the most charitable observer to wonder what in the world they’re actually trying to do. Convince the public that they’re concerned about the ongoing invasion without actually doing anything about it? Point a trembling finger at the Russians to distract from dedicating military bases to illegal immigrant housing? Bolster support for an EU of which they’re not even a member? I’d love to know.
No, just responding to Russian and Chinese interest in the sea between Greenland and the UK.

I fail to understand how jamming satellites stops France from sending many boat loads of muzzies mojados every day, in a sea invasion of Britain.
Apparently they are already at it.
I’d be looking first and foremost at funding of drones,and second at asymmetric means of defeating drones and missiles. 3rd would be keeping what the UK does have in the way of “ships, aircraft, tanks or artillery” actually working, as the UK’s recent record there is pretty sorry...
