Britain may have to increase its Channel deal payments to France to nearly £1bn because it is such a big draw for migrants, the head of an inquiry has warned.
Sébastien Huyghe, the chairman of a French parliamentary commission into Channel agreements, said that if the small boats crisis continued, France could demand an increase to the current £662m three-year deal to "more than €1bn" (£930m) – a rise of 40 per cent.
He admitted that he was "not sure" the UK would agree to such an increase in funding, but he maintained it bore "significant responsibility" for the current situation because it was so attractive to migrants.
His commission has estimated that a third of all migrants entering the EU illegally do so because they are targeting the UK, around 60,000 out of 170,000 in 2025.
"We have learnt that 71 per cent of those who manage to cross the English Channel or the North Sea are subsequently granted refugee status, which is a huge figure," said Mr Huyghe.
"As those attempting the crossing have a high chance of being granted permanent residence on British soil, I understand why they are willing to take every risk.
"Furthermore, although efforts are being made, the UK remains highly attractive due to its labour laws. I therefore cannot see how the situation on our coasts could change in nature."
"Are the residents of the Opal Coast, the Calais region and even the entire coastline – given that the problem is spreading further and further in Belgium and Normandy – are they condemned to live with this situation ad vitam aeternam [forever]?"

Why does Britain have to pay France anything? For each boat that attempts to cross, just blow it up right in the middle of the Chanel and send a missile into Paris. It won’t take France much time to stop the foolishness.
The French are the same self servers no matter where they are.
The engineer in me loves to solve such problems. I think i see the problem: ‘those attempting the crossing have a high chance of being granted permanent residence on British soil.’
That took all of 3 brain cells.
Rule .303 would solve this problem.

I used to visit the UK in the 80s and 90s. My passport was always stamped with something like ‘6 months max employment prohibited.’
I once even took a boat to the UK. I went from Rosslare, Wexford, Ireland to Fishguard Wales. Nobody offered me a free hotel, halal meals, and ‘walkin around’ money. I had to hitchhike from the port to the train station.

If they were Germans in the boats in 1940...
1. Incarcerate the passengers for 3 months then return them to your best guess as to where they are from.
2. Incarcerate the boat ‘captain’ for 5 years then return to your best guess of origin.
3. Give the outboard to me as I am shopping and really want a decent slightly used outboard for a good price. Shipping to USA should be included.

He's not wrong, the UK is offering free benefits to anyone who makes it. I have no sympathy for the UK. France should milk them for every penny. The UK is one of the reasons France is being overrun.
The UK behaviour is worthy of farts in their general direction.
Or they could just sink them. Just one or two would do.
Sinking a few boats would be much much cheaper.

It’s hard to blame France for dumping its Third World trash on England. It isn’t hard to blame England for letting it happen.
Yesterday afternoon, rebel Danny Thomas live-streamed from a small launch in the mid English Channel. He videoed the illegals being picked up the British Royal National Lifeboat Institute boats, their French escort collecting the rubber boats to take them back for the next load, the RNLI then transferring them in turn to a much larger British Border Control vessel, which took off at a high rate of knots and transponders switched off to evade Danny’s efforts to track them to a particular landing port. He also intercepted radio messages between the various parties showing the whole thing is coordinated.
The invasion is deliberate and planned regardless of what any politician or media tells you.
And it always has been.
