The Justice Department on Friday released a new legal opinion that concludes a federal gun law prohibiting firearms dealers from selling handguns or handgun ammunition to young adults between the ages of 18 and 20 is unconstitutional by violating their Second Amendment rights.
The OLC opinion is not legally binding, nor does it create any precedent.
However, it is likely to lead federal prosecutors across the country to refrain from pursuing felony charges against licensed firearms dealers who are suspected of knowingly selling handguns to young adults under the age of 21.

Yeah, except by high fees for registration compliance, exorbitant cost of ammunition and firearms, cumbersome regulations on manufacturers pushing some out of business and causing others to add costs to the customers. Some states’ background check costs are absorbed by the gun shop but others are charged by them to the customers.

Actually even in the newly formed republic of the late 1700s “infants” were not allowed to go buy new powder weapons. They could be gifted them or use them if in a militia.
At that time infants meant under voting age, 21.

I remember back in the 70s in California you had to certify that you weren’t going to use that box of .22LR in a handgun. In writing.
Even as a youngster I thought that it was all pretty stupid.
Same with the drinking age.
You either are the age of majority or not. Fighting, marrying, mortages at 18 means you are adult enough to drink beer or purchase and carry a firearm.
There is no two stage recognition of rights. Maybe studies show that everyone under the age of 24 and over the age of 60 says one stupid thing on the internet at least once a year so that means that we add a third layer of adulthood before one is allowed their first amendment rights at 24 and lose them again at 60.
There is no end to that foolishness. If 3 stages are good then why not 6 or 8? Each adult is simultaneously endowed with all rights and responsibilities at the same time, if they dont have the right then they dont have the responsibility.
Is the interference in my state by forcing people to buy FOID cards and pay for concealed carry classes. You point and shoot. What more is there?
18 year olds today are not like 18 year olds in past decades.
Yeah, At age about 12, I got .22 at Western Auto for .49 for LR, and .45 for short.
That .03 was important back them.

Hmmm I’ve been 2A believer my whole life, but I’m not so optimistic about most of the youth roaming the streets these days. A bunch of feral morons with impulse control issues and a brain washed grudge against normal people. Seems a risky crowd to arm up.
In most big cities 12 year olds have no problem getting (mostly stolen) guns on the street. They know when they hijack cars or rob people the courts will just turn them back over to their mothers.
