7 Republicans rebel against Trump, vote with Dems to rein in Iran war powers

A handful of House Republicans rebuked President Donald Trump's operation in Iran on Tuesday, joining Democrats to pass a resolution aimed at reining in the commander in chief's war powers.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., introduced the war powers resolution that was backed by 14 of his fellow House Democrats, including Reps. Jason Crow, D-Colo, and Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash. But it was Republicans who helped put the legislation over the edge.

Seven House Republicans joined all 213 voting Democrats to pass the measure in a 220 to 204 vote late on Tuesday night. Opponents of the bill were 203 House Republicans and Rep. Kevin Kiley, I-Calif., who caucuses with the GOP.

"I've been consistent on that since the war powers provision expired after 60 days of engagement," Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Mich., told Fox News Digital on Tuesday morning ahead of the vote.

Barrett was among the group who voted to rein in Trump's war powers, along with Reps. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., Nancy Mace, R-S.C., Thomas Massie, R-Ky., Marianette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, and Zach Nunn, R-Iowa.

Republicans who voted to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran have long argued that it's on Congress to declare war, not the White House. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 generally allows a president to engage U.S. forces in hostilities for up to 60 days without congressional authorization, with an additional 30-day withdrawal period under certain circumstances. Supporters of the resolution argue that the period has already expired.

The Trump administration has argued the president is acting within his constitutional authority as commander in chief and has defended the continued military operation against Iran, saying the resolution would improperly restrict the president's ability to protect U.S. forces and national security interests.

Like the Dems, these “Republicans” are awaiting an Iranian nuclear strike. Then they can blame 47.

They are probably thinking that they are trying to mitigate the damage to the midterms...probably too late for that. DJT has screwed the midterms up with probably no way to fix it now, and with the help of the ignorant SC on mail ins, the second half of his 2nd term is probably zero gain too.

Are they cool with Iran’s repeated attacks on American ships in the Suez Canal since late 2023?

Yes. It is very sad when you snatch failure from the jaws of victory. President Trump has started
to lose a step. He is not in tune with America. We were sold this war like it was going to be a
couple of weeks, a month tops.

Now it portends Dems gaining control, and we suffering through 2 years until 2028.
I doubt Rubio would have dragged this out. Even Hillbilly Elegy would have handled it better.

I love President Trump but even Babe Ruth stuck out sometimes.

What is the practical implication of this? Can it actually stop Trump from attacking Iran or is it just show?

What is the standard amount of time usually allotted to take out a regime that wants to nuke us into oblivion?

GRAND OLD PARTY:

* Happy to see Texas taken over by monkey-worshipping, public-pooping, H1-B fraudster Indians, and will denounce anyone who disagrees.
* Happy to see Iran with a nuke.
* Happy to see mass "mail-in" voter fraud.

This is like straight-up Weimar shit, to be honest. this is how a tyrant rises to power.

It was going pretty well for most of the first year notwithstanding the broad brush attack on every country in the world with the tariffs. Why be subtle and diplomatic when you can just raise hell with everyone?

At least we have gotten rid of some of the illegals and closed the border for now. No condition, good or bad, is ever permanent though.

Since 1979 every President said it needed to get done. They all did nothing.

Partial exceptions should be given to Reagan and Trump 45. Reagan did provide support for the Iraqis in their war with Iran, at least after the Iranians began to turn the tide. Trump 45 did renounce Obama's deal with the Iranians and did start imposing sanctions.

Always. Trump is way ahead of these people, as usual

Everyone thought it was going to be like the first time. You know, drop some bunker busters.
Fly the B2s over. Break some stuff. A couple of weeks tops.

Disappointing isn’t it? We began with such great hopes and expectations. Some have been realized but darkly clouded by this war folly.

The revelations today about the damage to facilities and equipment in the ME are not as unexpected as they are disappointing that we were misled to think most incoming had been intercepted and damages were light. An example that stands out is the reports that some tankers were damaged and needed repairs. I don’t remember being told about an AWACS plane being blown in half. Some things our enemy doesn’t need to know. If so, say nothing to anyone and don’t take economies with the truth.

A fellow once said, “The problem ain’t so much that you’ve lied to me. The problem is that I can’t ever trust you again.” Trust and integrity, like virginity, once lost can’t be recovered.

It seems to happen just about all the time that familiarity breeds contempt. I’m sure it is a hard job and politics makes it worse but you hope that all would not let compromise be their undoing. Something about swimming with sharks always leading to eventually getting bit or becoming one of them to survive.

You can do it half assed or you can do it until the job is complete. President Trump chose to get the job done right.
