Houthi control of Bab al-Mandab Strait poses new threat to global economy
Le Monde ^

The grip of Iran-allied Houthi rebels on the narrow sea passage between Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, a vital route on the shortest maritime link between Asia and Europe, has sparked fears of rising oil prices and shipping costs. Between pipeline attacks and control over the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Iran's allies have begun targeting new infrastructure critical to global trade just as the pressure from the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf had started to ease. In just a few days, Yemen's Houthi rebels seized the coastal city of Mokha and several islands in the Red Sea, consolidating their hold on the Bab al-Mandab Strait, the waterway between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. Meanwhile, drones launched from Iraq damaged Saudi Arabia's East-West oil pipeline on Thursday, September 10, forcing its shutdown the following day.

Just in! The Houthis have just mined Bab al-Mandab Strait…

In the meantime the Houthi-Iranian ally RUSSIA is doing sabotage operations all over Europe as we speak… including in Norway.

Since the two special US envoys went too Moscow a week ago, Russia is going completely “gong ho”, like a cornered injured dog - biting desperately and randomly at anything it can get…

The Neo-Soviet warmongering psychopaths in the Kremlin need more blood apparently. They already killed or maimed 1.5 million Russians, and tens of thousands of Ukrainians… the Kremlin’s thirst for blood is endless... 🩸

We provide the Saudis all kinds of military equipment, but they have not been able to defeat the Houthis in Yemen for years now.

Sea mines are not a simple thing, I’d be interested to know where they obtained them.

Looks like even the Iraqis have joined the resistance. This war isn’t winding down it’s expanding. Trump is doing the exact opposite of what he campaigned on.

If the Chinese need oil they will get it by all necessary means.

Woe be it to any Houthi that stands in the way.

This Just in. The Houthis have just mined the strategic
Bab al-Mandab Strait..........a vital Mideast oil route.

The Houthi obtains its naval mines primarily from supplies transferred from Iran and through indigenous local manufacturing, sometimes recycling components from older, Soviet-era munitions in the pre-war Yemeni military stockpile.

Sources of Houthi Naval Mines:

Iranian Transfers: Intelligence assessments and UN panels of experts have repeatedly linked Houthi sea mines—such as the Iranian-designed Sadaf type—to direct shipments and technology transfers from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Local Production & Improvised Devices: The group manufactures many of its own contact and floating mines domestically. Some primitive floating variants are constructed locally using modified household gas cylinders packed with explosives and fitted with contact detonators.

Legacy Yemeni Stockpiles: At the outset of the civil conflict in 2015, the Houthis seized control of various military bases and coastal defense depots belonging to the Yemeni Armed Forces, giving them access to legacy Soviet-era naval hardware.

This war is the greatest gift to Democrats. They’re broke and we’re propping them up with this war.

the coastal city of Mokha

Origin of the term "mocha" for the coffee which was coined during the 15th-17th century when fine quality beans were grown in the hills there. ☕☕

Let's just say the wooden containers had Chinese words on them. Stating they were shipping video gamer chairs in them.

BS. This is just Iranian propaganda to try to divert US from Hormuz to Bab al-Mandab Strait. No way the Houthi barbarians have done this. I guess this website is owned or controlled by Iran.

We provide the Saudis all kinds of sophisticated US military equipment,
but they have not been able to defeat the Houthis in Yemen for years.

Note that Saudi Arabia must protect vast oil fields, refineries, pipelines, airports, and cities across a huge area.

The Houthis use low-cost drones and missiles to attack these valuable sites.

The Houthi movement maintains a tight, centralized leadership inside Yemen.

Iran supplied the group with training, weapons, and technical know-how. Blockades and sanctions slowed down the Houthis, but they still found ways to smuggle or build parts locally.

Why can’t we just replace Saudi Arabia with oil exports? We STILL aren’t drilling in ANWR!
