The Cook County judge who released repeat violent felon Alphanso Talley on electronic monitoring before he was charged with killing a Chicago police officer is accused of holding two courtroom deputies in contempt this week for not immediately removing handcuffs from a different inmate charged with murder.
It’s an upside-down world in Judge John Lyke’s courtroom, where deputies are locked up and repeat violent offenders are sent home.
On Wednesday, two deputies were escorting the inmate into Lyke’s courtroom at the Leighton Criminal Court Building when he ordered them to remove the man’s handcuffs, according to Teamsters Local 700, which represents the deputies. The inmate, who was not identified by the union, was classified as “high risk movement.” Sheriff’s Office policy requires a supervisor’s approval before restraints are removed from an inmate with that classification, according to the union.
When the deputies moved to call their supervisor, Lyke held Samuel Estrada Perez and Jarrett Kelley in contempt of court, the union said. Both deputies were taken into custody and stripped of their badges and protective equipment. Lyke then required them to apologize to the court under threat of up to 90 days in jail. They were released after apologizing.
The union is calling on Chief Judge Charles Beach to reprimand Lyke and reaffirm that Sheriff’s Office policy governs the movement of inmates into and out of courtrooms. The group said it is “weighing” a possible request for the Illinois Judicial Inquiry Board to investigate Lyke.

Should be arrested and charged as an accessory to the crimes that were perpetrated.

Teamsters Local 700 is 101% Democrat - they support only Democrat Candidates and campaign for them. So...The deputies who were locked up undoubtedly voted for this Judge.
Again I ask or state... Who in their right mind would be a cop in a blue city? Especially a White cop in a black city? Every cop needs to quit and leave those democrat run s holes to their own devices.

What should have happened is the deputies should have removed the cuffs from the arrested and immediately walked up and cuffed this moron so-called “judge”. Then, frog-marched his ignorant arse to the nearest cell, locked himup and flushed the keys down the nearest commode....whadda idiot...
The bailiffs should arrested the judge, cuffed his ass and carted him off to jail.
I’d look for link between the judge and the perp.
Sheriff’s Office in such cases should send deputies escorting handcuffed high risk defendant into THAT judge’s courtroom without keys to the cuffs. Requiring conversation with a supervisor, outside of direct reach of judge’s power base, to get any judicially desired keys delivered.
Impeach this godawful judge. Remove his sorry hide.

My problem is that they were forced to apologize in order to not be jailed for 90 days - what “fellow officers” would arrest and jail them? Seems like Chicago has a serious problem.
