Houthis Seize Strategic Red Sea Port, a Major Victory for Iranian Ally
The New York Times ^ | September 10, 2026 | Vivien Nereim

Posted on 09/10/2026 6:59:10 PM PDT by KingofZion

The Iran-backed Houthi militia captured a strategic Red Sea port city on Thursday, according to two Yemeni officials, in a sweeping ground offensive that could give the group greater control over an important shipping route and further destabilize energy markets.

The Houthis pushed out forces allied with the Yemeni government, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, to seize the city of Mokha as well as its port, according to a local official in the city and a senior provincial official. Both spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

Mokha has been the focus of several days of fierce ground battles between the Houthis and the internationally recognized government.

For Saudi Arabia and its Yemeni allies, the capture of Mokha is a major setback, raising questions about their ability to constrain the Houthis.

“It will put the U.S. and the Saudis and their allies in a much tighter situation than they already are,” said Farea Al-Muslimi, a Yemen specialist at Chatham House, a research institution in London.

For the Houthis, who are increasingly demanding to be treated as the country’s legitimate government — and be granted the power and resources that would come with that — taking Mokha is a significant victory. It also puts an ally of Iran one step closer to controlling a key maritime choke point...

Mokha is less than 50 miles from the narrow Bab al-Mandab Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea. The city’s location made it an important maritime hub hundreds of years ago, and its port was once the main export point for Yemeni coffee beans.

why would we not turn this port into a parking lot? are we that low on munitions? The red sea is a key route for oil now.

Well, it’s not about how much ground you take, it is about how much ground you can actually hold.

I give this crew about 24 hours after the decision is made that they will not be “allowed” to hold it.

The Houthis are on a roll. Just today they managed a direct hit on Saudi Arabia’s east/west pipeline. The resulting fires have lit up heat-detecting satellites. And there are rumors that a Saudi Aramco facility has also suffered a direct hit. Things are getting pretty interesting.

Despite immense wealth and the accumulation of huge amounts of the latest military equipment, the 9/11 Saudis cannot control or stop organized terrorists in adjacent Yemen. Time to wake up America.

I know they are just reporting the situation, but its hard not to feel the glee from the NY Times at this development.

It’s blatantly obvious our legacy media and the rest of the left aligned anti-Americans support Iran and its proxies.

But most of these people also hate Russia, which exposes motivations.

But the NYT just generally is anti-American which has been documented for many decades now.

Things are getting pretty interesting.

One would think those countries hit by the Houthis, etc would fight back.

Time to make them pee or get off the pot in their own defense.

Maybe, we’ll need parallel confirmations.

When was Yemen a viable nation? How long has our Embassy not been in Sanaa because they had to bug out? 11 years? The entire country is hooked on khat. The Houthis are just an Iranian proxy. Yemen is a vassal state. This should not be a surprise to anyone who has had to work in the region.

Trump inherited an undeclared war with the Houthis in Yemen from the Biden administration.

Biden ordered the first wave of air strikes January 12, 2024.

Trump announced a deal with the Houthis May 6, 2025 that both sides would stop shooting at each other.

We can make gasoline from atmospheric CO2 and water....

No need to give our riches to those who sit on lots of oil. We need to end this b.s.

And yet again, Muslims lie!
I am sooooooooo (not) shocked.
If the Saudis want to be crippled by another group of Muslims, I don’t care.
Oil prices? Blah blah blah.

This current generation would all be speaking German if this was 1950.
Feckless. Weak. Cowards.
