Vice President JD Vance is everything, everywhere, all at once, lending a hand to midterm candidates around the country, headlining MAGA Inc., fundraising dinners, and taking questions in the White House briefing room.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been a repeat visitor to the early caucus state of Iowa, he hosts a podcast and syndicated radio show, and he has positioned himself as a different kind of Republican from Donald Trump and Vance.
And what is Marco Rubio doing to lay the groundwork for a potential 2028 presidential run? Almost nothing.
So while Cruz and Vance will both be appearing at the midterm convention that begins Wednesday in Dallas, Rubio has found urgent business elsewhere. He leaves today on a swing through Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
The message is clear. The Secretary of State is focused on the job of reimagining Latin America and being a loyal lieutenant to the president.
That could yet be the foundation for a campaign platform, or it could be the sign of a man who is content to let Vance inherit the Republican torch.
Now, Secrets may have some insight into Rubio’s thinking about the nature of presidential power. He may think the 2028 election is unwinnable for Republicans.
“That has nothing to do with Trump or polls or popularity now. It is all a cyclical thing,” said a former Rubio aide.
He told Secrets that during the 2016 campaign, Rubio would talk about how the moment was right to take back the White House from Democrats who had been in power since 2008.
“The thing is that the White House has only stayed in one party’s hands, from one president to a different one, once since the Second World War,” they said. “That is at the heart of his thinking.”

Imagine predicting Trump in 2014.
Neither of Marco’s parents were US citizens when he was born. That may matter to some.
All supposition. The author’s fantasy.
Given who the Demorats may nominate in 2028, any predictions based on past events is meaningless.
Silly article, but if it were true, than he doesn’t have the balls to be the Nominee.
What a stupid article. Rubio is not running for President because it is not time to do so. I am glad he is able to focus on his amazing jobs than primping for the presidency, like Vance is.
Marco would be the strongest candidate we could run in 28 so l hope this article is wrong. Vance or DeSantis are not as strong nationally especially with the damn women vote.
A cynic might opine that the Dem Superdels will have their instructions from a shadowy central committee, and that the votes would be counted accordingly, well in advance.
What a complete fabrication of BS.
You know that... how?
Like it or not, people speak off the record. President Trump has spoken off the record or on background about himself in the past and has spoken to Maggie Haberman on an extensive basis.
“Now, Secrets may have some insight into Rubio’s thinking about the nature of presidential power. He may think the 2028 election is unwinnable for Republicans.“

So, I guess these guys have found a way to read Rubio’s mind.
A much as I like Vance, I don’t think he could win a general election. Rubio could because he seems more reasoned and he would absolutely win the Hispanic vote.
But we are ages away. Well, at least four months away. We’ll see.
This is creepy journalism.
The title says they know sure what he thinks.
Then the body of the article says he “may think” such and such.
You can’t do that in journalism!
No matter who the Republican Party runs for President in 2028, know this:
The demonicRAT Party will run an absolute disaster. Its candidate will be an islamofascist or an outright communist and will be utterly determined with all its demon-possessed heart to destroy these United States.
Vote wisely.
<< He may think the 2028 election is unwinnable for Republicans. >>
Nonsense, he knows better. Especially considering the particularly awful candidates in the Dem field for 2028 — Harris is leading in the polls, and AOC in the betting lines. If Rubio doesn’t run it’s either because he doesn’t think he can beat Vance in the primaries or just doesn’t want to run against him for whatever reason. Perhaps he thinks a Vance-Rubio ticket would be unbeatable.
Smart.
Stay at SoS.
South America and the Caribbean are gonns be Big Deals.
We need a native speaker, a family man, a person with a history on the big picture.
It matters to me. I like Marco but he is ineligible to be CIC.
According to who?
Opinions are irrelevant until we hear back from the SCOTUS.
DeSantis/Duffy 2028!
Ted Cruz has a snowball’s chance of getting the 2028 nomination.
