The U.S. military hit targets in Iran on Tuesday after it said Tehran tried to attack commercial ships and American forces in the Middle East, as hostilities flare once again in an intermittent war that has lasted more than six months.
The U.S. strikes, and others on Sunday, abruptly ended a month without military action and threatens to fully reprise a conflict that has spiked global oil prices and posed political problems for Republicans in November’s midterm congressional elections. The renewed fighting comes after President Donald Trump had appeared to pivot toward trying to bend Iran to his will through economic sanctions.
“If the failed Nation of Iran retaliates for this very justified attack, they will be hit again at a much harder and higher level, but it will not be the biggest attack of them all, that is waiting in the wings,” Trump warned on social media after U.S. Central Command announced the latest strikes.

Time to mine the harbors on the Caspian Sea. The Navy has closed the front door with the blockade but the back door is wide open. Then blow up the rail bridges on lines that are being used by China and Russia. Get serious about this thing.
“conflict that has spiked global oil prices”
BS, oil spiked because they want more money and to paraphrase “let no crisis go to waste”.
Why wait for retailiation? Strike them again and again. I'm going to go crazy if I have to read again how well talks with these maniacs are going.
Haiphong Harbor is the landmark monument to absurdity. Brave young Americans were killed, an inconclusive “limited” war was prolonged and ended in bitter defeat. It appears we have learned little from that debacle and our enemy is being regularly resupplied.
Totally gonna stop the Ho Chi Minh trail this time!
If they can raise prices just ‘because they want more money’ why do they ever lower prices?
=We= the US, get very little oil from the Persian gulf.
We are an oil exporter.
However, we also participate in the global oil market. Which means if someones in say Malaysia, or anywhere else, are willing to pay more for US oil than Joe Schmoe from Main Street those someones in Malaysia will get the US oil.
This has been in place since 2017.
I mean what’s the point of having an oil surplus if it’s made available to the R o W?
ME countries and GCC states subsidize petroleum sales to citizens. A gal equivalent of gas is less than half what it is in the US due to the subsidies.
T would be smart to re-instate pre-2017 fuel policies.
It is a shell game. Up then down for but to appease us, then up again, then the next drop is not as far as the previous. We produce enough oil we should not be tied to foreign oil prices. This globalism crap has gone on long enough.
Globalism stinks.
So it's not competition and supply that lower prices, but the benevolence of oil company CEOs?
We produce enough oil we should not be tied to foreign oil prices.
We're draining the SPR while we export oil overseas. Why do you think we'd be immune to foreign supply shocks and demand?
CEO’s and global power brokers. They use any excuse to raise it up then slow walk lowering it back down when the “crisis” is over. If we were truly energy independent (and we could be be), we wouldn’t care what happens overseas.
We drain it when politicians want to garnish votes by artificially flooding the market. We should never touch it for domestic or foreign markets. It is for defense, that is why it was created.
The renewed fighting comes after President Donald Trump had appeared to pivot toward trying to bend Iran to his will through economic sanctions.
Hey AP,,,,he can do both.
Hope he gets a few mullahs too.
Stop pussyfooting around, Mr President.
Finish this and let the Iranian supporters cry to the skies. This is a rogue quasi-theocracy chaired by maniacal, brutal animals deserving of no quarter.
Islam is a cult. It has been at war with civilization for 1500 years. We are currently engaged in the latest escalation of that war. It is a war we dare not lose.
For every attack by Iran the US should destroy 5% of Iran’s oil facilities in the straight.
Maybe it’s time to ban the export of US oil for 90 days.
