Iceland’s voters rejected a proposal to restart negotiations on joining the European Union more than a decade after previous talks ended, the national broadcaster reported Sunday.

The vote will put the long-debated issue to rest more than a decade after a euroskeptic government ended EU talks.

Opponents defeated the measure by a margin of 52.8% to 47.2%, RUV reported.

This happened multiple times in other EU countries, except the politicians refusing to accept defeat, shoved joining the EU down the throats of Europeans thru a treaty that was negotiated and didn’t require the vote of any of the people.

We’ll see if Iceland does that.

Given all the trade issues that we have with Canada, I wonder if they realize we have a trade deal with the EU that is probably not as good as the deal they just walked away from.

Europeans thought wrong that a no to join with the US meant they would say yes to the EU. Iceland is stuck on stupid that they can do just fine on their own.

The EU will move on to Canada instead.

That would be an interesting scenario.

The E.U. started as a common market of goods, then morphed in to something different a borderless amalgamation governed by an elite not subject to democratic controls with hostility toward the sovereignty of its member states. Iceland doesn’t want to join and lose its sovereignty to a commission in Brussels or Luxembourg of the court in Luxembourg. Beneath the facade of “democracy” the European Parliament has little real power, and why should Iceland bother to join it?

The E.U. started as a common market of goods

Once you have accumulated that kind of power, it is difficult for you to stop there.

As an organization, it is natural to acquire more powers.

Interesting that we saw a bunch a stories saying all the polls showed this vote was going the other way. I am so sick of the relentless media manipulation by the leftist bastards who control what the public sees.
