A word of caution to the Right as the midterms approach: do not run on messages from the Left. The policies of Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and others of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) base should not be the north star. So, why borrow from their playbook on data centers?

They are essential for total central control.
People are afraid of the unknown, AI is unknown to most people, we see stories nearly every day about how AI has gone rogue, people are naturally afraid of the implications.
Datacenters are by extension AI, without datacenters, AI won’t operate, at least that’s the logic being used.
With technology today, AI datacenters don’t need to be located near a major metropolitan area, so long as AI developers build their own power production and don’t get some sweetheart deal that allows them to escape property taxes, I don’t see the problem.
I also have to wonder how much of the Left’s Scare tactics are being financed by China or other Left-Wing radicals.

Lame article...the “DailyWire” doesn’t even know the difference between a traditional “server farm” data center (like runs FreeRepublic or Amazon AWS) and the new AI/GPU driven “data centers”. Their comment “You are reading this column because of data centers” proves their ignorance on the topic.
Mostly a “power thing”...cost inflation to average consumers...PDJT should probably not only require that new AI data centers make their own power, but make 110% of their own power and provide the extra 10% to the local power grid (at the wholesale kWh price or for free for “goodwill” purposes).

The stories of data centers using water, making noise, etc, etc, etc. are not true of modern data centers.
Yes, the first ones constructed when the internet was rolling out did consume large amounts of water, electricity and had loud backup generators.
But nobody builds them this way anymore.
Today, data centers are more energy efficient, build their own electrical generation and do not consume water for cooling....they have closed loop cooling systems.
Do not fall for the propaganda.
Data centers are not AI. They are just computing hubs for the internet, just like the data centers we built in the 1990s as the internet grew.
Data centers from the 1990s are not the same as data centers today. Today’s data centers do not consume water (most are closed loop cooling) and most build their own power generation systems.
My problem with data centers are that 2/3’s of them use GRID POWER and a lot of it (an additional 20 to 25% of current consumption)...AND there are no serious corresponding efforts to increase grid capacity.
Solve that problem, and I’ll be good with it. I neither need or care as to what the Leftists or Chinese have to say about data centers as I’m old enough to have learned math (including percentages and fractions) in school.

I, for one, don’t worry about this. We need the expanded technology and have the resources to build and operate these. This is the 5G scare all over again. 5G has been deployed. Did you grow a second head or anything?

Maybe to some degree. Add to that that they’re storage facilities for data on all of us. Every text message. Every social media post.
Yeah I tend to agree...the power, noise, water issues can be solved...how would we have had any domestic steel foundries, GM, Ford or Chrysler auto plants, won WW2 or had other heavy industries with some of the “NIMBY” arguments I see RE: data centers today? Zone them for areas not near any residential areas, require cooling/water “loop” systems, keep the decibels low outside the perimeter fence and have them make their own power.
