ICE deports Venezuelan father from Texas to West Africa: A situation "I don't wish on anybody"
CBS News ^ | August 28, 2026 | Camilo Montoya-Galvez

A 35-year-old Venezuelan man who lived in Texas for years is now nearly 6,000 miles from his wife and 5-month-old American son after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported him to West Africa.

Carlos Tellez Sanchez said he had never heard of Liberia until last week, when he found out he was being deported to the country that sits between Sierra Leone and Côte d'Ivoire just hours before his flight took off. He said he spent the 15-hour flight across the Atlantic in handcuffs, and is now stranded in a remote area of the West African nation.

...

In December 2025, Tellez Sanchez was detained by ICE during what he expected would be a routine immigration appointment. He spent eight months in ICE detention centers before his deportation to Africa.

An immigration judge in 2021 granted Tellez Sanchez protection from being sent back to Venezuela, finding that he could be persecuted there. Legally, however, that order did not prevent ICE from deporting him to any other country.

So glad they found a safe place to deport him to. He must have really not wanted to go back to his native country of Venezuela! Perhaps his family will join him soon.

See BS News loves writing headlines like this. It’s about the only thing they can do effectively.

Carlos, pay no attention to that huge man sized cooking pot in which the natives are beginning to boil water. Miss Venezuela yet?

Assuming he was lying about leaving Venezuela because he feared for his life there, he brought this on himself. If he WAS telling the truth, it was probably drug trafficking related, in which case he brought this on himself. If he was in fear of his life in Venezuela because he refused to cooperate with drug dealers, then he has my sympathies.

The moral of the story is: if you are here illegally, go home! If we find you, we might send you 1/2 the world away from your home OR the USA.

Where you will face the significant challenge of ever getting home again.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Maybe his wife will be convinced to join him in Liberia.
They may have very different reactions to the area;

“The chores!
the Stores!

Fresh air!
Times Square!

You are my Wife.
Goodbye, City Life!”

“CBS News could not find any criminal charges or convictions for Tellez Sanchez, beyond civil immigration violations.”

And there’s the obligatory lie that misdemeanor (first time) illegal entry is not a crime, but rather a “civil violation,” whatever the hell that means

He had the option of going home, getting a free ticket, and even getting paid to do it.

He chose poorly.

Carlos Tellez Sanchez had the opportunity to get three thousand yankee dollars AND a free trip back to Honduras.

But he declined that generous offer.

Now he's in Africa ... in Liberia ... and he's too damn ignorant to have heard of that country before he got there.

Monrovia Liberia is equally as nice as most places in Venezuela.

CBSnews is RACIST implying that this black African country is an inferior place to be.

The best part is that stupid judge must be more pissed off than the guy who got deported.
