On Thursday, Florida became the first state to bar recipients of the Temporary Cash Assistance program (TCA) from using those funds on purchases like tattoos and body piercings, theme park tickets, video games, vaping products, and other items that are not considered "basic needs." It is a move that the Trump administration hopes other states will adopt.
TCA is a program funded through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program, separate from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. However, individuals can be recipients of both programs. The Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families (ACF) lauded Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for implementing "common sense restrictions" on "inappropriate, luxury, and non-essential purchases," in a letter to the governor obtained by Fox News Digital.
Gov. Ron DeSantis said of the new restrictions:
"Taxpayer-funded assistance should help families put food on the table, keep the lights on, purchase clothing, provide for their children and overcome barriers on the path toward independence. We will continue supporting Floridians who genuinely need assistance, while working to improve accountability and transparency so that these programs operate as intended."
The Sunshine State had already prohibited purchases of alcohol, as well as purchases at adult entertainment businesses, casinos, and commercial bingo establishments, but the new plan goes beyond merchant-specific restrictions to specific items purchased at any location. Other items in the updated plan include nicotine products and pornography, and...wait for it..."[p]sychic and fortune-telling services." Now that hurts.
This isn't some SNAP recipient's first bout with government restrictions on what they can purchase with those federal funds. Back in April, Florida, along with several other states, implemented restrictions on sugary drinks, like soda and energy drinks, and candy. SNIP>>>>

Like the old joke that a guy decided to better his life and he gave up cigarettes, alcohol, fatty foods and chasing women for sex. On reflection later he said those were the worst 90 minutes of his entire life.
How was this allowed in the first place. I know it wasn’t happening back when they decided to push this on a reluctant US

TANF Cash Benefits: The Texas Health and Human Services Commission provides monthly cash payments for families in need.
While cash deposited into an account or withdrawn from an ATM technically lacks real-time, item-level purchase blocks at every commercial point of sale, spending these funds on non-essential luxury items like tattoos violates the program’s intended purpose of supporting basic family needs.
Could this be more idiotic?
On the whole a very good governor for Florida in my opinion.
His fiscal discipline is what we need in Washington D.C.
But I think he may have fatally hurt his hopes for the White House with the Hope Florida shenanigans. Totally unforced error, and criminally bad judgement.
If they have a tattoo on them that should disqualify them.
I agree that it should never have been allowed to cover such products.
But, give credit to those like DeSantis trying to change it.
He’d make a great president! He walks the talk!
Being governor of a big and varied state like the Florida is the closest thing to being president, and he has done a fantastic job of that.
And even in the last few months of his tenure he’s doing very substantive things, like removing abuses from the welfare system.

Tattoos are not only a waste of time, money and resources, they are utterly useless and I know too many people with hepatitis traced to tattoos
Anyone who’s getting treated for tattoo originating from hepatitis. For life. On Medicaid and welfare Is a complete abhorrent drain on families and others making an honest living paying taxes

I would prefer him to simply not provide welfare to anyone with a tattoo as it shows their ability to reason logically is SEVERELY compromised.
Beans, rice, potatoes, milk, flour, cooking oil, vegetables, fruits
That should be list.
I’ve always wondered how people on welfare could afford weaves, artificial nails, wigs, etc. Decades ago, we had to be on food stamps for a few months, when the tool and die industry in our area went belly up. It wouldn’t have occurred to us to do anything illegal with them. We probably could have qualified for other assistance; never occurred to us to hunt that down. I ran into a woman I went to nursing school with one day; she was bemoaning the fact that she and her live in boyfriend, the father of her three children, got caught cheating welfare. He worked at Chrysler, made excellent money, and got bonuses as much as $20,000/year, and lived with her all along. Of course, she had never declared him as living with her or paying any support to her. All this time she had been collecting every type of welfare available. “Oh, well, she said. “It was good while it lasted”.

It’s really outrageous that someone even has to take these measures. The country is deep, deep in the debt hole, and so are many states. There are people who are in genuine need, and so much money that could be spent usefully is being pissed away by lazy, worthless trash. Cut the guilty ones off from any kind of assistance —for good — and, if they can’t make it on their own — oh, well.
