Exclusive: Navy weighs renaming carrier slated to honor Black war hero, potentially switching it to Trump

The US Navy is working to rename an aircraft carrier under construction that was set to honor a Black sailor hailed for his heroic actions during the attack on Pearl Harbor, three sources familiar with internal discussions told CNN.

During President Donald Trump's first term, the Navy announced that the Ford-class carrier would be called the USS Doris Miller, recognizing an enlisted sailor who helped defend US forces from Japan's attack.

It's unclear what the Navy is seeking to change the name of the carrier to, though two of the sources said there have been internal conversations about renaming it to honor Trump. It would be an unprecedented move to name an aircraft carrier after a sitting president.

Sources say other sources say who are familiar with other sources.

Sounds legit.

I think the ships name should not be changed to Trump.

Wow! Two sources. If it was only one source I would doubt it but TWO, that has to be true.

He already has a ship named after him.

I'd like us to revive the WW 2 Essex names for the carriers. It avoids all the political nonsense.

Yes, this is a terrible idea. Surely even tone-deaf Trump
and his most devoted sycophants can understand this.

Reads like another lie the media is pushing to create bad press for Trump.

I will reserve judgement until some actual facts and sources other then anonymous / hearsay come out.

Regardless, since WWII the practice has been to name carriers after US presidents or MAJOR historical figures. They guy is a hero but hardly a major historical figure and unfortunately being black this name section reeks of a woke infection.

There were 3,000 killed at Pearl Harbor, I’m sure there was heroism and bravery 10 times a second. The problem with the blatant discrimination of DEI is that whenever a black person accomplishes something or gets an award, you wonder if they deserved it or not. Jason Arday, Claudine Gay, KBJ, Lloyd Austin, Kamala...

It is amazing how CNN and all the other network news outlets, hate Trump so much, they look for anything and everything to throw out there.

“Office Space” said it:

“Michael Bolton: That’s the worst idea I’ve ever heard in my life, Tom.”

“Samir: Yes, this is horrible, this idea.”

He was awarded the Navy Cross by Chester Nimitz in 1942.

Is that good enough?

Dorie was a hero, but the naming was DEI.

Carriers don’t get named for ordinary heroics.
