President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon on Sunday to scale back planned joint military exercises with South Korea after the Republican president said South Korea declined to help denuclearize Iran.
Trump said in a social media post that the exercises slated to begin this week are costly and “send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile” to North Korea, which he said “has been unthreatening and respectful” while Trump has been in the White House.
The 11 days of exercises involving 18,000 South Korean soldiers were designed to beef up readiness against North Korean threats.
A day earlier, Trump posted a photo of himself standing next to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, writing that the two leaders get along great “despite the unfriendly look on this particular picture.”

Thank God for President Trump. Obviously South Korea is acting like a fair weather friend. Sending them this subtle message is quite appropriate.
South Korea has been going over to the dark side. Perhps you haven't been following it.
My favorite part is his claim this is not an impulsive act. He’s always disliked these exercises bit forgot to cancel them, and now it’s too late, so he’s only cutting back U.S. participation.
We're broke and don't need to spend the money.
There is a China element here too.
Think of this: South Korea is a crucial force to keep China (and it’s hundreds, if not over 1000) boats in the China Sea.
In order for China to get a boat out it needs to pass Japan, Korea, Philippines or Indonesia.
So instead of practicing invasion level drills against North Korea, tone it down a bit with just helping to ensure that China is locked into it’s coast.
By saying “we’re gonna drill against China” he could be saying “yeah we’re not totally on board with this big exercise”
Even though China is not making it a secret that they are drilling against US forces extensively.
There is no way trump is friends with North Korea. North Korea has given us NOTHING. Trump isn’t even friendly to Spain at this point because they are not giving anything substantial.
That’s my thoughts anyway. The oval office won’t let me in anymore to talk to the president anymore.
North Korea will develope nuclear weapons in short order.
Trump needs to be taken into custody and put into a padded cell.
I’m pretty sure the current S Korea government is left wing and cozying up to China.
Their left has distanced themselves from the US and has begun cozying up to the CCP.
Entirely appropriate. We will no longer subsidize their rush towards suicide.

Providing verbal and diplomatic backing and ballistic missile tech to a country with whom we’re currently at war, and condemning U.S.military strikes on that same country doesn’t qualify as either unthreatening or respectful. .
Can you blame them, the way Trump has treated them? Better a strong friend in China than a weak one in the U.AS.

South Korea wants us to help them reckon with nuclear North Korea...but won’t help us in reckoning with nuclear Iran?

All those fair-weather friends were happy to sit under the "deterrence umbrella" when the US held it up. When asked to hold a portion of it up....
Add to that and they probably stole the last election and then prosecuted and jailed their opponent.
