As fighter jets launch air strikes on Iran from the San Diego-based USS Abraham Lincoln, now operating in the Middle East, military families are reporting to MS NOW that the carrier's 5,000 crew members are suffering through supply shortages.
“Food obviously has been scarce,” said Nicole Conrad, whose son is a sailor on the carrier. “He’s told me there was a time where he was only eating half a cup of rice and two tortillas.”
Families say their loved ones are also dealing with long periods with no hot water for showering, laundry service that’s down for weeks and standing in line at the ship's store for more than an hour. Only to find there aren't basic supplies like toothpaste, soap and deodorant.
“I know there's Army guys that are like, look, I slept in a hole that was muddy underneath the tank and I ate MREs (meals ready-to-eat). But you didn’t do that for nine straight months,” said Navy veteran Brett Snow, who’s the father of another sailor on the carrier.
The shortages are happening as USS Lincoln has set a naval record of the most continuous days at sea. More than 200 and counting, with only two short port calls in the nine-month deployment.

Because the quotes are from family members of the sailors, I think they are parroting what the sailors are telling them and not using critical thinking skills. Has the navy run out of supply ships?

Aircraft carriers have runways on them don’t they? You mean we couldn’t supply them from our bases a few hundred miles away? Smaller ships have access to helicopters supplying them don’t they?

Sure beats the crap made in McAllen, TX for Desert Shield/Storm. "MREs" (Meals Rejected by Ethiopia). For some reason, I always got the "Chicken a La King". I would trade them off for a bag of Skittles. Lost a lot of weight.
I don’t doubt that there are some issues. I also don’t doubt that some of the junior enlisted personnel are exaggerating a bit to their families, girlfriends, etc.. Certainly wouldn’t be the first time in military history that’s happened....
Rice and tortillas sound like he or she did something wrong and their rations are punishment.
I find it hard to believe that they didn’t have food. When I was in, we had MRE’s in every cargo ships holds stored for in case of a war broke out. We gave a very large amount to the Thia’s that were about to expire in exchange for using their base during a war game.
I call BS on the food issue.
My guess is that she is telling the truth. It's her son that is lying to her.
