SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. (WTNH) — Sen. Richard Blumenthal presented medals to a 98-year-old Korean War veteran from South Windsor Monday, recognizing his honorable military service and courage in battle.
Pablo Mendelez served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. During his service in Korea, he sustained serious injuries while trying to rescue an injured soldier under enemy fire.

So someone with a "non-American" sounding name is not by default a criminal illegal alien but, in fact, an American hero. Probably a news flash to some here.
If I were that soldier I would have clearly mentioned Danang Dickie’s brave service in....where was it?
I believe we have a Korean War vet here at FR.
Of course many black,Hispanic and other “non European” guys fought courageously and skillfully in WWII...Korea...Vietnam...and more recently.
A couple of years ago I accompanied my Korean-American girlfriend to Korea. She hadn’t seen her son or her mother in a long time so we spent about 3 weeks. One of the places we visited was the DMZ. It was her first time there and,of course,my first time as well. She cried copiously while we were there. And given the stories her father,uncles and other older family members told her it was completely understandable.
That’s rich. No shame whatsoever. God help us regarding the criminal class running Congress.
98 y/o, he was present and accounted for, in his wheelchair and dressed in a nicely fitted grey suit. The medals were presented to him on a silver platter. One of his family members pinned it onto his suit coat lapel
If that were my great granddad sitting there, I would be so very proud, and happy he lived long enough to receive proper recognition. Gov. Blumenthal maybe going through his own health concerns. He walked, slightly bent forward, the way Biden used to do.
Not really commenting on this man, but aren’t those medals that should have been issued as a matter of course? How could he have gotten out of the service without those being put through?
I am glad he finally got them. It’s a shame that it took so long.

It appears that they were always a matter of record but for some reason had never been given to the veteran. Glad it was finally done - no fan of Blumenthal but good for him...
Two bronze stars... That’s impressive.
