A Venezuelan woman who graduated from St. Thomas University and lives in South Florida was released by ICE on Monday after being detained nearly three weeks ago by agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as she tried to travel to North Carolina...

“Claudia had no criminal record. Her detention is unacceptable," South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman said. "I was able to speak with her, and she told us about the terrible conditions she experienced while detained at...

Maybe this lately is a victim of overzealous enforcement.

But the very fact she is being (willingly) used as a prop so Debbie Blabbermouth Schmuck can bash federal immigration officers is very suspicious.

Local Miami media is all giddy about this crap.

Wash woman is just trying to climb out of the black hole
irrelevancy.

Won’t work though, too much else going on for this to get traction even if it was newsworthy.

There is no such thing as "overzealous enforcement".

Laws are black and white.

The only greyish areas are in the sentencing ranges.

Somehow I doubt Wasserman has ever had any sympathy toward any victims of the illegals.

“She arrived in 2017 legally. We’re Venezuelan. She applied for asylum,” Gabriel Domínguez, the woman’s cousin, said at the time. “During the process, she was granted TPS, the (temporary) protection order, and she was waiting for her court date. She had no violations or crimes — nothing — and while she was going through the process, they detained her.”

...

ICE said that from July 1 to July 26 in the Miami area, 5,605 undocumented immigrants were detained, and regarding Venezuelans with TPS, it added: “The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela on November 20, 2025.”

I appreciate DHS detaining illegal aliens until they’re deported. They let a handful out until deported if enough fuss is made. They will still get the flight home.

A “Wasserman” is a test for syphilis. Maybe a shot of antibiotics will make her go away.

How could ICE know her status without first detaining her?

People are detained everyday pending an investigation into traffic violations and petty crimes. Some are even….gasp…separated from their children.

From the article: "...she told us about the terrible conditions she experienced while detained..." - Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz

Well Deb-bee. She can go enjoy the beautiful conditions in her home country. She's in the U.S. illegally since her Temporary Protected Status ended in November of 2025. And Deb-bee, you can join her.

My recollection is that someone on a student visa has 60 days to leave after graduation or dropping out. Undergraduate graduation was May 13 and graduate school was May 14. So she would have needed a different visa after July 12 IF she was here on a student visa.

If she was here on a refugee visa, I’ll leave it to DHS to sort out.

Breaking unwritten FR rules, I clicked on the link. She had Temporary Protected Status, which had been terminated. So it doesn’t look like she was in the country legally.
