Let kids know you’re on their side and try to build their confidence by saying something like “I see you’re anxious right now,” Demsky said. “I get it. I know that’s hard, but I know that you have the power to handle this feeling and you will get through this.”
Also, when you start getting warnings from school officials because your child is racking up absences, pressuring your kids will only make them more stressed. Instead, schedule a meeting with school officials to explain the problem and brainstorm solutions together.

And don't forget this, either: “We want to let the child know that we get it. We understand that this is something they can’t control.”
Have a nice day, Momma.
Childless atheist communists always have the best child rearing techniques!
WTH when I was grade school age there was no question about going to school - you got your ass up, watched the 3 stooges ate breakfast and got on the bus!
Now, when I was in Jr. High...that was a different story, racked up a few absences in my day.
I have to say that I feel sorry for kids having to go back to schools, the public ones. They suck and are dangerous. From the predatory teachers to violent, abusive fellow students, school is a horrible place to have to go to. It’s like a day-prison.
Ironically, they have become this way probably because of the advice this article gives.
Like the causes and consequences have come full circle.
Yea
👍👍👍 😁

Somehow it wasn't an issue back in the day.
I don’t yell…. I say… “too bad ,get dressed , you’re going”
Then if there is still an issue I threaten to shut off the wifi for a week.
Problem solved.
Simple.
I racked up 87 days m6 Jr year... but I did have a valid excuse, and did get my studies done, and able to graduate... thankfully have an almost photographic memory, so study and recall for tests was easy fer me
One trick was to eat a hot pepper, then go to parents, eyes watering, snot gushing, nose red etc and claim not feeling well... it wasn’t exactly a fib lol.
home school ping
Maybe the kids know that going to a public school is pointless, and may actually be shaving points off their IQ.
I remember... “I don’t give a shxt about your feelings get your azz out of that bed and get ready for school NOW or you won’t be able to sit at school when I get you there.”
Sounds like the Dr. Spock philosophy of child rearing.
Say something like "You get your butt on that bus, young man" - YES.
“I only know 3 chords!”

“saying something like ‘I see you’re anxious right now,’ Demsky said. ‘I get it. I know that’s hard, but I know that you have the power to handle this feeling and you will get through this.’”
LOL! I can just hear my parents saying something airy-fairy like that. Not.
First, we’d never have the nerve to say we didn’t want to go to school even if we didn’t want to go. Being sick was the only way out, and it had to be verifiable.
Second, if we DID say it, we’d be sent to the middle of next week for “sassing”.
My aunt used to say to her kids, “Now, you know Mama doesn’t like that”, all mealy-mouthed in a negotiating way. Her kids were good in one sense, but they had little to do with her as adults. My sister and I were her support system.
Once she even admitted to Mom, “Your kids treat me better than mine do”, which had to choke her because there always was some rivalry between her and Mom.
I never skipped classes. That’s not to say I was a perfect student-far from it.
