Navy to tow boats back to France, says Reform: Party unveils 'Operation Fortress' to combat Channel migrants

Reform UK has pledged to launch 'the biggest military operation in the Channel since World War Two' to end migrant crossings.

The plan, branded Operation Fortress, would see the Royal Navy put to work protecting Britain's borders and towing any small boats back to France.

Reform's home affairs spokesman Zia Yusuf will unveil the policy on Monday, at the start of a week of announcements by the party on migration.

He will be flanked by as-yet unnamed senior former members of the Armed Forces - who Reform claim have endorsed the scheme as 'operationally feasible', and one the rank-and-file of the military 'will be ready and able to do'.

Mr Yusuf will say Britain is being 'invaded', accusing Tory and Labour governments of responding to the crisis by offering 'a free ferry service and free hotels'.

He will say: 'Nigel Farage will order His Majesty's Royal Navy to ensure that not a single unauthorised vessel crossing the English Channel makes it to the shores of the United Kingdom.

'Those who attempt it will be intercepted by our Armed Forces and returned to France.'

Mr Yusuf also told the Daily Mail the Navy will be permitted to use lethal force if intelligence agencies confirm the presence of known terrorists or smuggling gang leaders.

He said: 'Once the world realises that crossing the Channel illegally leads only to being intercepted by our Royal Marines and returned to France, the incentive structure breaks.

'These economic migrants will stop paying smugglers and the boats will stop coming. That is how we will stop the boats. Reform will stop the invasion.'

More than 160 migrants have died trying to cross the Channel since 2018. Reform insists that the plan is legal under international law, citing the requirement to preserve life at sea.

Great sentiments - if they have enough seaworthy boats to do it.

...and sink the boats after emptying the invaders back into France.

They can't claim to be refugees if they're arriving from France.

I think all they have to do is jump in the water...for the legally required rescue.

The French “[English] Channel” coast needs to be made a “Boat Free Zone”.

Who the hell cares about that? Do what you’ve got to do, to save your nation.

Anyway, Reform UK is talking hypotheticals here.

If Reform and Restore can’t get their act together and unite, Labour will cruise to yet another win.

The Brits need to acquire the USS Germantown (LSD-42), being decommissioned in September.

And that's a wrap for England.

South Africa is the only country that built nuclear weapons and then deliberately destroyed them before a new demographic majority took power.

By 1989, they had 6 assembled warheads and a working intermediate range missile that also launched satellites, all developed alone under total embargo.

1990: de Klerk ordered the arsenal dismantled

1991: every gram of enriched uranium was melted down

1994: the missile program was cancelled

It was all finished before the ANC inherited the state.

France and the UK will sooner or later have to face similar difficult decisions. pic.twitter.com/ehWiyJ3Aa8— Rothmus 🏴 (@Rothmus) August 2, 2026

'Nigel Farage will order His Majesty's Royal Navy to ensure that not a single unauthorised vessel crossing the English Channel makes it to the shores of the United Kingdom.'

Small point, but I would argue that the use of the expression "makes it to the shores..." demonstrates how American idiom is spreading to the UK.

I’m not British.
And I have no British blood in me.
Hungarian, actually.

But I am very much interested in what’s going on the UK. It’s like watching a proud and noble animal struggling in quicksand, and hoping that it will somehow not die but extract itself.

It’s also because what’s happening in the UK today will eventually happen in the United States.

So I very much appreciate your posts.
