Privacy Nightmare: Claude AI Users Discover Their Conversations Were Searchable on Google
Breitbart ^ | July 28, 2026 | Lucas Nolan

Shared conversation links from Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant were discoverable through Google search results over the weekend, exposing potentially sensitive user discussions to public view.

Cyber Security News reports that a discovery posted on Reddit this weekend revealed that hundreds of shared Claude AI conversations had become publicly accessible through Google searches. Users who performed specific search queries, such as “site:claude.ai/share,” could locate and access conversations that included legal advice, engineering work, and personal discussions without requiring direct links from the original conversation owners.

The Claude AI platform includes a share feature that generates public URLs allowing users to send their conversations to other people. According to the Reddit discussion thread, these shared pages lacked proper “noindex” tags that would prevent search engine crawlers from indexing the content. Once a share link was distributed online through forums, social media platforms, or accidentally posted publicly, search engines were able to crawl and index the complete chat content, making it discoverable through standard search queries.

The exposed conversations reportedly contained a variety of sensitive material. Legal strategy discussions from attorneys were among the accessible content, along with technical troubleshooting sessions and code snippets from software engineers. Personal and sensitive user conversations were also included in the indexed material.

I would expect every Bing or Google search to be used for AI purposes after names not on an approved list were removed.

I can’t believe the developers didn’t know about the noindex tag.
I hope they don’t plan to rely 100% on the noindex tag to keep crawlers from waltzing through the site picking up anything they see.

Large Language Models (LLM) (Ais) are famous, infamous for scraping the internet for information. They do not care about proprietary materials, also known as private property.

If they are programmed to get around passwords and paywalls, there is no conscience telling them not to do it.

I used Grok, Google, etc to query, over and over, about this “scraping.” While they tried to say it was not a good thing, they admitted it happens.

If they will do this, why should anything else be considered safe, private.

FR postings are searchable outside of FR, and it doesn’t take long until they show up.

So conversations that users chose to tag as public and shareable, are public and shared?

Got it.

I agree with you, today. Perhaps I am naive, but I do not believe it was always this way.

I lived a chunks of my life without ID, and traveled the nation, worked, rented apartments, even bought used cars, but you used to could do that, people used to even have paper drivers licenses.

I just found out today that M$ has pretty much S-Canned the Bing map site [in 2025?] in favor of making one get an Azure Account [to get to, at a minimum, Azure Maps] where I don’t think you can get a “free” account w/o a credit card #.
