This monster shark’s going totally nuclear on New York’s coastline!
A massive, nearly 12-foot man-eater has been wreaking havoc on large marine animals in the waters off Long Island — sparking a hunt for the predator and a wild theory that she mutated from a nuclear waste leak.
The giant mako shark — dubbed “Sharkzilla” by experts — reportedly sunk her teeth into a humpback whale near Montauk, leaving it with a 2-foot bite mark.

Panic over a shark. Lightning kills far more people than sharks every year. Tornados kill even more.
PS Sharks kill about 5-10 people per year worldwide.

Mako sharks, also known as sharp-nosed mackerel sharks and (in Australia) blue pointers, range throughout tropical and temperate seas. They are streamlined and relatively slender and have pointed snouts, crescent-shaped tails, and long slender teeth. Body coloration ranges from blue gray to deep blue dorsally and is white ventrally. The largest adults may approach 4.5 metres (14.8 feet) in length and exceed 500 kg (about 1,100 pounds) in weight. Mako sharks prey on fishes such as herring, mackerel, and swordfish and on small cetaceans.
The shortfin mako shark (Isurus oxyrinchus) is found offshore in tropical and warm temperate waters of all oceans, but has been known to travel to cooler waters at times. It is very strong and the fastest known species of shark, reaching moving speeds of 31 mph (50 kph) with bursts up to 46 mph!

O’Connell seems to be more worried about the effects of radiation on sharks than humans. If what he says is true, of barrels leaking radiation I would think we would see it in our seafood. The Hudson Canyon area has some very good fishing, especially along the edges. I don’t see anyone glowing in the dark.
