Millennials and Zoomers need the ROAD to Housing Act. Right now.
American Thinker ^ | 7/13/2026 | Joseph Cotto

This bill slashes barriers to building homes, modernizes outdated Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, bolsters community banks, and stops big institutional investors from crowding out American families. It is unapologetic America First policy that proves Republicans can deliver results even when Congress moves slower than molasses. ... It even halts any Federal Reserve central bank digital currency until 2030.

It's rare that I disagree with AT. And parts of the ROAD act I do agree with (stalling digital currency). But the part I excerpted above about HUD scares me. If I understand it correctly, it makes it easier for rental home owners to qualify for Section 8 housing -- taking more starter homes off the market from normal home buyers to be rented out to the government for a guaranteed income from the govt and house repairs paid for by govt.

This act expands section 8 housing across the Nation and will destroy the character of rural communities.
This act enshrines Big Government interference in the housing sector and is a giveaway to corporate donors at tax payer expense.
This act fixes nothing since it ignores the real issues of subsidies for foreign home buyers and lower barriers to foreign mortgages c/w Americans. It ignores the scarcity of apartments & homes, elevated rent/purchase prices resukkting from Bisa holder & illegal alien demand. Why are mortgages for H1B 3 yr visas being facilitated?
This bill is a betrayal of Americans to pay off political donors and to give both sides a bragging issue to fool the left and any republican too stupid to come out of the rain.
This bill is a permanent entitlement and opportunity for fraud & abuse.
X is replete with enraged Americans.

This bill slashes barriers to building homes

Except in California, it will still take 4 years and a few hundred thousand dollars to secure the necessary permits to build a home on your property.

This is how to build a house:

Buy a piece of land — even if it costs more than you can afford

Find the right contractor that will let you do some of the work yourself

Work your a$$ off

Enjoy the fruits of your labors for 31+ years (so far)...

It’s all about fighting for what you want.

Bringing goose eating Haitians in to be your government dependent neighbor can never be a good thing.

From Ann Coulter’s substack on this bill:

“Apart from eliminating some burdensome federal regulations previously enacted by these morons (repealing almost anything passed by any Congress ever, for any reason, is a good idea) the main outcome of the law will be to destroy neighborhoods, while unjustly enriching well-heeled landlords of decrepit apartment buildings.

Specifically, the act expands Section 8 housing, a government program to move violent, gun-happy, drug-dealing welfare recipients from inner-city public housing units into previously safe neighborhoods. The theory is that if only criminals lived in nice middle-class areas, they’d get jobs and become productive members of society!

Don’t worry — Section 8 won’t be coming to Chappaqua anytime soon. ‘Every town needs a ghetto’ is for other people.”

Say what you will about Ann Coulter, she nails it here. Bill should have been vetoed by the Pres.

I’m glad this is now law. I have a rental house that has not increases in value in 4 years. This act, designed to lower housing prices, will do the exact opposite. It will lower housing prices the same way the inflation reduction act lowered inflation.

You are right to look at the law with a jaundiced eye. It was passed by both the wolf and the cougar which is never good news for the sheep.

The sole purpose of this bill is to move welfare dependent human garbage (democrat votes) into less populated middle class neighborhoods in order to dilute. the republican vote and pave the way to a communist dominated Congress.

Anytime the wolf and cougar agree it never bodes well for the sheep.

I guess the next thing for the federal government to do is nullify any and all local zoning ordinances and state land use plans.

I say end government welfare of any kind. If you can’t end it, cut it to 6 months only. Yes help people find jobs, even women with children. Accept only Married women too. But take this enticement to not work out of the picture. No free rides! I can say this having been on welfare as a child—I know how it takes dignity from a family—I saw how it wrecks people -— Dependency is worse than human slavery.
