US bought 2000 F-Drones F10 attack UAVs from Ukraine as the Pentagon moves to the next phase of the billion-dollar 'drone dominance' program, with the legacy US military-industrial complex cautiously looking

The United States has taken delivery of 2,000 Ukrainian F10 attack drones after manufacturer F-Drones secured a Pentagon contract during the opening phase of the Drone Dominance program.

The shipment follows Ukraine's first official export permit for completed combat drones, marking a notable change from earlier approvals covering mainly technologies, components, or accessories.

The delivery also comes as the Pentagon advances the next stage of its broader $1.1 billion Drone Dominance initiative aimed at expanding domestic and allied unmanned capabilities.

I’m impressed that the Ukrainians have been able to gear up their production of drones. Buying like this isOK for an “emergency” measure but the US really needs to support ramped up domestic tactical drone production capabilities.

Bought? Why are we paying a country that owes us billions of $$?

It looks like we bought from a company, not the government.

Think of the opportunity this gives the Europeans and others to support the Ukraine war effort by buying the drones from them and giving them all to them to use. Will Ukraine license the building of these drones in other, friendly countries? Soon they could be awash in drones and that really might move the needle dramatically in their efforts to be in a better negotiating place.

Do attack drones with range exist that can arrive from Ukraine to ANY part of Russia to cause damage?

Trump is spooking domestic manufacturers to lower their costs.

Not yet, but mainly because Ukraine has little need to attack further than 4,000 km or so, and apparently presently can attack up to 3400 km. (Those are flight path distances, which are usually not straight line.)

If Ukraine wanted to hit an Eastern Russian port, their best bet would likely be from a small freighter with well faked documentation.

“drones from a small freighter”, I should clarify.

We can gear up while not under attack, too.

IMO it should be a $10 billion program as soon as it can be made efficient and practical.

“Trump is spooking domestic manufacturers to lower their costs.”

American drone manufacturers can ask Ukraine companies for a license to build their drones here. The Ukraine companies can then collect license fees, strengthening their companies and leaving them to manufacture for their own national defense.

Bought? Why are we paying a country that owes us billions of $$?

For the same reason we buy from Israel even though they owe us billions.

Although, legally, neither country "owes" us because, unfortunately, we give them the aid for free.

Considering that Ukraine needs every weapon it can get, I doubt any Ukrainian manufacturer could sell weapons to foreign countries without the Ukrainian government's permission.

I'm sure an export permit was negotiated between the U.S. and Ukrainian governments before the sale was okayed.
