ANDY Burnham is all but nailed on to become Prime Minister in 11 days time after Labour MPs overwhelmingly backed him.
Some 322 colleagues nominated him to replace Sir Keir Starmer on the opening day of nominations today.
The Makerfield MP is the sole candidate running to be Labour leader after all his rival bids melted away.
It is now virtually impossible for anyone else to get the 81 MPs required to launch a challenge and prolong the contest.
Tonight Mr Burnham sought to firm up his party by apologising for Sir Keir’s stance on the Israel-Gaza war – as Labour MPs overwhelmingly backed him for leader.
The PM-in-waiting admonished the current party boss for not applying enough pressure on Benjamin Netanyahu at the start of the conflict.
Sir Keir infuriated many Labour MPs in 2023 for suggesting Israel had the right to cut off water and energy supplies to Gaza.
It has cost the party large swathes of their once-reliable Muslim voter base to the Greens and independents.
Mr Burnham said: “I know many people feel that at the start of Israel’s military action in Gaza my party didn’t get it right and I am sorry about that. The response has too often not been good enough. We need to do better.”
He will become PM on July 20.

It’s a job no one in their right mind would want at this point.
No change in policy so its just a different face as far as I can tell. Commies gonna commie.
Exchanging the devil we know for the devil we don’t.
Yes, even so called conservative parties allowed the mass grooming to go on. All the same.
First action is to throw Israel under the bus and kiss Muslim ass.
Such a bizarre system where a few tens of thousands of people can elect one representative, and then 3 weeks later he can become the most powerful person in the country. Yet almost no one in the country outside of that district knows anything about him, and the media has not vetted him at all
,,, they'll stick to left wing glorification. Vetting is something they get involved with when it all turns to crap. Needless to say, Burnham's taking on crap but he won't make anything better for Britain. He's simply the end of the process for a clearing house for Starmer.
Looks like the atlantic fleet will have to start shadowing the brit boomers too. This guy sounds like a total sellout, just like his king.
So the guy who just got about 25,000 votes is about to become the PM. What a system.
He may be the “King of the North” but he wouldn’t have lasted long on “Game of Thrones.”
11 days?
Is there still time for Graham Platner to get in the race?
Not sure why they call him that. Maybe if he’s from Scotland...
Classic reference.
More to the left than Starmer. They have not learned a thing.
Anything north of the Watford Gap, 77 miles outside of London, is considered “the North.” Or draw a line between the two bays jutting into England from the east (the Wash) and from the east (the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel) and that roughly separates the South and the North.
They only have like 3 or 4 at this point, and are not even able to keep 1 at sea at a time consistently. So not much of an issue.
What with the bow pointing at Mecca and the crew praying five times a day.
From one Leftist a$$hole to another. Good job England !
