U.S. revokes Iranian oil waivers after series of Strait of Hormuz attacks

The U.S. Treasury Department said Tuesday it will cancel its authorization of Iranian oil sales following a series of attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

The decision comes after Iran launched multiple attacks on tankers transiting the critical waterway this week, despite having promised safe passages to commercial ships under an interim deal to reopen Hormuz. The Trump administration had previously waived U.S. sanctions on Iranian oil as part of that agreement.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control is ending the license that had allowed the production, delivery and sale of Iranian oil, which was set to run through August 21, according to a statement. No new transactions can take hold on or after July 7, the OFAC said.

Oil prices surged immediately following the announcement. Brent crude (CO1:COM) climbed above $75 a barrel, while U.S. crude futures (CL1:COM) jumped to over $72 a barrel.

I think it was Whitey Herzog managing the St. Louis Cardinals when he put in a relief pitcher who kept throwing gopher balls(home run pitches) and losing games. Exasperated, he old reporters: “I gave him more second chances than I gave my first wife.”

We’re in that territory.

Forget the second chances. First, turn that funeral procession into the highway of death from Kuwait. Then go to the b61 route. As the enemy in the Independence Day movie said no peace. So why wait.

Trump and allies should set up a program where the Strait must remain open and the cost of ANY AND ALL damages* inflicted upon shipping by Iran will be 100% covered by IRANIAN IMPOUNDED FUNDS. This would stiffen the spines of the shipping insurers and reinsurers. And IRANIANS UNDERSTAND MONEY, do not want to lose it and will punish (i.e., kill) those who cause the loss. And the ones causing the loss are the IRGC.

I’m posting this in every thread where the absence of such MONETARY DAMAGES ASSESSMENT is partially responsible for the situation.

And, yes, we could both bomb Iran (and/or take other actions) and do this at the same time.

* “ALL damages” INCLUDES the cost of cargo, the cost to repair/replace the ship, the “opportunity cost” (revenues/profits the ship could have made during the time the ship is out of action), losses suffered by the crew members (and.or their families) who are injured or killed.

Had small arms been air dropped to the hostage population, all the bad guys would

have been eliminated by now. 2A for the people dammit. They would have had

revenge torture on the rats. They deserve it. Cost would have been cheap

compared to losing aircraft and men. Could have supplied intel and attack

suggestions with massive leaflet drops.
