Officers in Nowak case face gross misconduct investigation
BBC ^ | July 1 | Indy Almroth-Wright

Posted on 07/01/2026 2:50:29 AM PDT by RandFan

Two police officers are being investigated for potential gross misconduct following the case of Henry Nowak, who was handcuffed and arrested as he lay dying, the police watchdog has said.

Nowak, 18, was fatally stabbed by Vickrum Digwa with a large blade in December 2025, which he said he carried on grounds of his Sikh faith. He then lied to police at the scene, falsely claiming he was the victim of a racist attack.

Digwa was jailed for life in June, with a minimum term of 21 years.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said evidence suggested the two officers who arrived first may have breached professional standards.

The IOPC said the investigation relates to potential failures by the officers to recognise Henry Nowak needed urgent medical help and the decision to arrest and handcuff him rather than provide first aid.

The watchdog added: "There's also an indication one of the officers may have breached the standard relating to authority, respect and courtesy, for appearing to dismiss Henry saying he had been stabbed."

It said Henry's family had been told of its decision.

IOPC director of engagement Derrick Campbell said: "Our investigators met with Henry's family earlier this month where we were able to discuss our investigation with them in depth, now that criminal proceedings have concluded.

"Two officers will now face gross misconduct investigations. There is clear evidence that public confidence in the force may have been seriously harmed by this incident, and that is a factor we must consider when assessing the evidence.

"The serving of gross misconduct notices does not necessarily mean that disciplinary proceedings will follow.

"At the end of our investigation we will decide whether any officers should face disciplinary proceedings."

Thank you very much and God bless you.

The police investigating the police..

What should happen in this case? Freepers generally back the Blue and they were repeatedly lied to by the now convicted Digwa. That said, they sure didn't follow procedure to establish the facts when arriving on the scene

I think they will be fired...

Only being investigated due to international outrage. No video released and this would already be under the rug.

The only real thing the higher ups worry about is negative pr for themselves. This will die a slow death , and nothing will change.

Ranting against the evils of Big Government then reflexively supporting its armed agents is irrational.

There's a big difference between opposing big government and advocating anarchy. Most LEO interactions are between local and state cops, not Big Government. There are some truly bad cops. There are a lot more truly bad/evil/insane people running around that cops have to deal with every day so that we don't have to. Because anarchy sucks.

I'm glad my taxpayer dollars pay for them to do that job.

Say what you will about the current situation in the UK and this specific case, that timeline of an offense in 12/25 to sentencing in 6/26 certainly qualifies for being swift justice when compared to the recent Anthony case in TX.

They are rightfully being sacrificed, but their sacrifice is to draw attention from the supervisors and politicians who demanded that whites are guilty.

Be not deceived: “Local and State “ are definitely part of Big Government.

As for uniformed public servants themselves ... the whole enterprise needs a thorough overhaul in the manner these servants are recruited, trained, hired, trained again, retained, promoted, and most of all held accountable to We the People whom they are supposed to serve.

And anybody who defaces the American Flag with a “thin blue line” should be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail and thrown in the nearest swamp.

The dying Nowak being cuffed by a bevy of determined cops AFTER he
told them he had been stabbed and was visibly lying in a pool of blood.

From the article: There's also an indication one of the officers may have breached the standard relating to authority, respect and courtesy, for appearing to dismiss Henry saying he had been stabbed.

That dismissal "Don't think you have, mate.", in response to Henry Nowak asking for help because he was stabbed, is up there with "Let them eat cake."

Fired? Do you think if they let a handcuffed migrant bleed out in the back of their car they would be looking at just getting fired?

No, that's not so. The bleeding was internal. It took eight minutes to find a wound. The audio of the officers desperately trying to get advice by radio while mistakenly attempting CPR has now been released:

Police took eight minutes to find fatal stab wound

Baloney. Police are trying to cover their tracks.

The BBC reported when police arrived at the scene, killer Digwa falsely claimed that Nowak had subjected him to a racist attack.

Responding officers handcuffed the severely bleeding and dying teenager lying on the ground. The highly controversial arrest prompted public outcry, parliamentary debate, and an investigation into the officers’ actions.

You can read more about the BBC News coverage of the bodycam footage or the Wikipedia article on the Murder of Henry Nowak for the full timeline of events.
