CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) has ordered mandatory evacuations due to the "Aspen Acres" fire, which is approximately 23,000 acres with 0% containment as of 5:24 p.m.

PCSO says that due to 100-mph winds, air support is currently unavailable. Law enforcement says multiple homes have been affected, but an exact number is unavailable at this time.

Officials report that 2,732 households have been asked to evacuate. According to PCSO, around 4,200 people are in the evacuation zone.

Smoke from the fire covers most of Pueblo County and likely will spread across nearby counties east and north.

PCSO says additional resources are on the way as the state has taken over the fire.

On top of the Cottonwood fire along the Utah border, it's been a rough summer so far.

It’ll be a problem for Pueblo before it gets close to the Springs.

Hope Bishop Castle survives.

I live in the area.

The fire started at Aspen Acres Campground, which is a few miles SE of Bishop Castle, alongside Hwy 165.

The prevailing winds were WSW, which pushed the fire away from the Castle, so it's out of danger.

IMO, that landmark is a local treasure.

Sadly, Dan Bishop, Jim Bishop's son, was seriously injured a few days ago while working on a structure nearby the castle. (broke several bones)

My dad lives a few miles south of there. About a mile south of the lake on Old San Isabel Rd. They evacuated last night and spent the night down in Colorado City. He just got back up there to check on a cow he couldn’t get loaded up. All is well. He said the fire that wen through there two years ago cleared everything out and acted as a fire break which steered the fire down the ridge. It got real close though. Said the winds at his house got up around 80 mph. Said it like to have knocked him over. So, sounds like they have containment on it now. Praise to God in the highest.

Glad to hear your dad is okay.

So far, it's still at 0% containment.

The wind direction changed today (E/ESE) from yesterday (W/WSW) and is blowing the fire back onto areas that burned yesterday.

The high winds yesterday were the reason they weren't able to send in the fire bombers. We saw a couple fly over our house this morning.
