Speaking after an Oval Office meeting with NATO chief Mark Rutte, the President branded Mr Burnham as "extremely liberal" when asked about what he knew of the former Manchester mayor.
He told reporters: "I don't know anything. I see that he was, I guess, the mayor of a town.
"I hear he's extremely liberal. Extremely. So that means he probably won't open up the North Sea".
The Labour government's reluctance to drill for oil in the North Sea has been a common bugbear of Mr Trump's.
He added: "You know, I gave Keir Starmer some pretty good advice. I said, open up the North Sea."
Discussing the state of the UK oil industry in the UK, the President said he has "every oil company come to see him" about having "access to the UK".
He said: "I have had every oil company come to see me. 'Sir, could you give us access to the UK? We would do anything to drill in the North Sea'.
"The amazing thing is they buy their oil from Norway, which gets the offer of the North Sea. Think of it, and they pay a big premium.
"Norway's got now $2trillion in the bank and UK is dying, so they should open up the North Sea, and it's an easy one. And a lot of good things are going to happen."

The stupidity of this is breathtaking. They won’t open North Sea oil harvesting to appease the Climate Nazi’s. So they buy it from Norway who gets it from… the North Sea.
Yeah but not for another 3 years.
It is possible Burnham may exploit the Reform/Restore split and call a snap election. If it worked it would cement Labour’s grip on power but it would be risky as hell
Fun fact: Labour won the last UK general election with only 34% of the popular vote. Other parties split the remainder.
If Reform, Restore, and the pathetic Tories cannot come to some agreement, Labour certainly could cruise to another win in 2029.
Side point:
As I see it, this agreement would have to carve out districts. For example, if Reform is strong in a district, Restore and the Tories would have to agree not to run a candidate there. No opposition vote splitting.
MinorityRepublican, you know more about this than I do. Does my take make sense?
True but Restore has gained enough strength to be a spoiler. Too bad because Restore is what is needed and l don’t think they can win. Too many of the sheep are scared of them.
I thought Burnham was a socialist?
If so, he’s not liberal of any way kind or form. Socialism is a postliberal ideology. Socialists hate liberalism and they’ve said it. But even if they don’t say it, they do it they legislate it and they act on it. Socialists are destructive of liberalism.
Your take makes perfect sense but l think it’s extremely unlikely. That degree of co-operation is unprecedented and exactly what is needed to save England but l just don’t see it.
They should do that.
But will it happen?
No.
Rupert Lowe and Nigel Farage should mend fences and come to an agreement for the next general election.
The first step is to recognize that they have a problem. They're too late. All of this should have happened 10 years ago before Boris Johnson.
Restore/reform combined was still less than burnham
Exactly. Johnson was a catastrophe. He was supposed to be against opening the borders to the hordes. Instead, he opened the floodgates.
