Anthropic has suspended its powerful new AI model after US authorities raised security concerns just days following its public release.
In a statement published on its website, Anthropic said it was ordered to suspend foreign nationals from using Claude Fable 5, a program that the company self-described as "too powerful".
"The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance," the company wrote.
Anthropic and the Trump administration are involved in a separate ongoing lawsuit over an order to stop government agencies using the company's AI tools. The BBC has approached the US Department of Commerce for comment.
Claude Fable 5 is a version of Anthropic's Claude Mythos, an AI program rivalling competitors OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.
Anthropic said US national security authorities had not identified specific concerns.
"Our understanding is that the government believes it has become aware of a method of bypassing, or 'jailbreaking' Fable 5," the company said.
Jailbreaking is a process of getting past software restrictions designed to protect a cyber network, allowing hackers to access sensitive information or unblock features.

I am an attorney. We have lazy uninformed morons of all kinds, lawyers and pro se litigants filing AI motions and pleadings in court on all levels. AI is so bad, no one need feel threatened by it. Just the use of it shows you are a moron. The fact that these lazy morons are filing this gobbledegook is a threat to our system of justice. I am 100% on the administration’s side on this deal.
“We have lazy uninformed morons of all kinds, lawyers and pro se litigants filing AI motions and pleadings in court on all levels. “
You are a dipshit, I am sorry, let me rephrase you are dipshit attorney, the issue being pointed out the AI security tools clearly have found something someone in power finds concerning. Unless your briefs have codebase, firewall rules and IP packet headers as the content think you have misread the article and misunderstood the topic.
Nobody gives two fucks that the American legal system cannot deal with spam and automation, the rest of us have been doing it for decades. That a court cannot automate getting rid of bulshit motions and filings is a problem that isnt on the rest of us, we have already tooled up for this. Even the most conservative lawyer danced and partied with lawfair, the most obvious of make work project for the bar club. The best thing about covid, it slowed down the old and tired lawyers who could not deal with electronic files and work from home.
“Im a Lawyer — DMZ”
I tested Fable 5 (analyzing stocks and markets). It is scary smart.
Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype, Hype No money —— Crash
They took it down pretty quick but technically you should be able to get access if it’s under export control that just applies to NON US citizens
Some of us can’t use it then which gives you an advantage!

Well, I may be a dip*, but I work from anywhere, my computer is my mobile office, efiling made things mobile, you obviously don’t understand what I am talking about. I happen to also have two brick and mortar offices for the purposes of in person meetings when necessary, depositions, and preparing for trial.
