On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, a 6-foot wooden cross was set on fire in Chicago’s Grant Park in broad daylight. Within hours, activists and media figures on the left were quick to label it a racist “cross burning” by white supremacists — the usual script they pull out whenever something like this happens.
