Graham’s embrace of Iran war faces primary test in South Carolina
The Hill ^ | 6/9/26 | Jared Gans and Sarah Fortinsky

The Iran war is on the ballot in South Carolina, where GOP primary voters will determine the political fate of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a steadfast ally of President Trump and one of the Senate’s most hawkish members. … Graham’s advocacy for the war has even extended to telling South Carolinians to prepare to send their sons and daughters to the Middle East.

South Carolina Republicans, please finally show the rest of the Nation that you are no longer spineless morons and at least subject this freak to a run-off.

It’s not a war. Trump is still negotiating a peace, so that it doesn’t turn into one.

Lindsey Graham was playing Jeopardy and when faced with the answer, “America First” asked, “Who should die for Israel?”

Orwellian sophistry is always and anywhere a bad look. Adopting it admits to losing the argument because you can’t even make it.

No such thing as “GOP primary voters “. It’s an open primary.

As the old business associate in Hilton Head used to say, “all of the Democrat candidates are fine with me, so I vote in the GOP primary.”

> It’s not a war. <

It sure looks that way.

I’d be inclined to agree with you had there been only one or two sharp strikes. But that’s not what’s happening here.

And if it’s not a war, what is it? I guess we can fall back on previous terms, “police action”, “kinetic action”, etc. Or the old “punitive expedition”.

All would be, I think, disingenuous here.

Graham will get reelected....after all, there’s about 36,000 Jews in South Carolina.....
.......that’s less than 1% of the state’s total population of 5.57 million.......s/.

Grahamnesty will still be a senator in his 90’s pushed around in a wheelchair.

Repealing the 17th Amendment would be a start. If the Founders only knew that The Great Compromise would be ruinous to the nation they’d find another way.

Grahmnesty has little effect on our war with Iran. SCOTUS is a different matter. We need him.

Absolutely right. The Founders carefully crafted the Senate to counterbalance the popularism of the House, and to give power to the state legislatures.

All that was thrown away by the 17th. The reasoning:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventeenth_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution#Issues

Interestingly enough, even Wikipedia mentions that these issues were overblown.

Too late now.

“No such thing as “GOP primary voters “. It’s an open primary.”

Over 70% of the voters in the Republican primary today are expected to be Republicans. The rest will be mostly Independents. So yeah, Republican primary voters do have a very significant influence on the outcome. And most Democrats will likely vote in their own primary instead. Anyway, I am not sure there is some great enthusiasm among South Carolina Democrats for the warmonger golfing buddy of Donald Trump, even if he is gay.

Let Linseed grab his rifle and rucksack, and lead the way to overthrowing the mad mullahs of Iran.

30% is a lot of non GOP votes. The primary has 6 people running. Where I live (in PA with a closed primary) that could swing an election.

It could for sure. But I can’t imagine there is some great enthusiasm for Graham among South Carolina independents. The real problem for getting rid of him is that the President endorsed him. Which many of us find unfortunate.

South Carolina is the least “Yankeefied” of the South Atlantic states. The old Southern culture is still strong in the Palmetto State. Lindsey Graham's principal opponent is Mark Lynch, who is solidly conservative, and like Graham, is a native son. He is endorsed by the Gun Owners of America. It is a bit concerning that Lynch has been endorsed by Joe Kent and General Flynn, indicating he may have some alt-right tendencies. However, he has been a successful businessman and should recognize the foolishness of self-immolation like that of Tom Massie or MTG. A Senator Lynch would be a vote against retaining John Thune as the Republican leader of the Senate.

Saying that Graham embraces the Iran War is an understatement. Graham embraces every single opportunity to engage US troops in combat around the world. He’s the living embodiment of Dr. Strangelove.
